I have random thoughts about the type of character I love, but--

They almost always boil down to pilots/swords/sticks/brains smarter than yours. Plus the snark.

Snark is essential.

*goes back to rereading the Time of the Dark* (also, women who get enraged/insane and defend their children = good.)
