sff: I should really make dinner edition...

Doctor Who: ...I've read this book, it was called 'The Pit'. I liked the book better.
BSG: oh frak me.

DW. Sigh. Um. It was mostly good?

Just. Seriously bad dialog. Like, WORSE THAN BSG BAD. And the stereotypical family? So over that shit.

This is probably going to be a quick review, with something longer tomorrow.

Before I begin, let me get one thing out of the way. RON MOORE, YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE, YOU KILLED MY MARINE SERGEANT GIRLFRIEND.

What is this, woman #5 to die this season? And how many men have died again?

ALL RIGHT.

1. The Kara and Helo Caprica Road Show in SPAAAAaaaaaaaaaaace is on day 58, or something big like that. Dude. How often did Sam get to frak his wife? You know that's totally why she couldn't find her printout, in the beginning. She was thinking, "frak. Sam I had sex over here and I shoved this all out of the way, now where did--"

2. Kara is crazy-pants, but I get this kind of crazy-pants way more than the shouty crap from the second episode. This is the Kara I've been writing in my season 4 stuff, so I was pleased.

3. Kara/Sam otp 4ever.

4. Helo is very worried and uncertain. Poor Helo. You shouldn't have volunteered.

5. Speaking of Mathias, Dee and Racetrack must be running Galactica all on their own now. Seriously, whose bright idea was it to go "let's send all the pilots and marines with Kara!" ?

6. So, anyway, then my first Cylon boyfriend, Leoben, shows up. And he's all "Kara I knew you'd find me." and she's all, "Let's go paint dirty pictures until Sam gets back."

7. Did I mention that I love that Sam's a viper jock? That he's a pilot and he was out on some long-ass recon, and that it's kinda hot when he gets back and finds out that no one objected to Kara being alone with the Cylon wackjob and he's all, "oh, I don't think so..."

8. SAM GOT TO HIT LEOBEN. AND KICK HIM IN THE HEAD. SAM HAS BEEN WAITING A LONG TIME, YOU MOTHERFRAKKER. But. Fuck. Damn. The entire scene, from Sam finding out Leoben was in there, with him yanking Leoben away from Kara and Kara shouting at them both and then--

9. Leoben and Sam. In a scene. Where they're talking. I THINK I MIGHT HAVE JUST DIED A LITTLE AND GONE TO HEAVEN.

10. Leboen told Sam that Sam and Kara needed to work it out, that they belonged together. YOU GUYS. LEOBEN SHIPS KARA/SAM. He also nailed Sam with the line about being "more than what we are", though I don't think he knows WHY that got under Sam's skin. He just knows it worked--he tried babbling about Sam the Pyramid Star, but lost Sam--

11. Which leads me to the bit that I love. Sam is the one who brought the Cylon alliance to the table. Not Kara, not Leoben. Sam. OH FUCK. Kara is going to remember that when all hell breaks loose.

12. The random commercial interview with Trucco talking about Sam's undying love for Kara, and how his greatest fear is her finding out? OMG. I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THAT MAN. Both of them. And Kara, too.

13. OH KARA. Ok, so, many of you know that I hated the shouty stuff from the second episode. I thought it was VERY ooc for Kara, and in this episode, she's very much the Kara I remember, with the low voice and the tension and the anger and the, GODS. I loved her speech to the crew after Matthias died, even if I don't think she has the right to burden them with that. Kara, asking their forgiveness isn't what will save you, at this juncture.

But she's so driven, so frustrated--she said to Helo that it's a sound she was hearing (I've been going with some sort of feeling, some pull, but sound works, too)--and maybe that's why the Dylons are there: to provide an echo of Earth for Kara to hear.

That's why sex with Sam does it for her, because for an instant, that connection is just a little stronger.

No, I don't think Kara's a Cylon (FRAK YOU, PIKE).

14. Speaking of Helo, he was in damn fine form tonight, even though he didn't take his shirt off. Tahmoh was awesome.

15. Chief. You knew I'd come to him eventually, right? AD did an awesome job, and I totally believe that misogynistic crap he said last week never happened. Instead, he punched Adama and got demoted.

16. Oh, Baltar. I'm trying hard to care and failing.

17. Tory's back. Tsk. Apparently, the ratings were failing. But Tory herself: well, awesome. Even though most of the stuff she says is very familiar (hey, didn't D'Anna say that in the BSG comic...?)

18. ok, so, Leoben the hippy Cylon wants to lead them all to peace or whatever. And, he might not be telling the whole truth, but I bet the other touchy-feelie Cylons DO want peace or a truce of some sort. They're stranded, after all. Adrift, set to die if they can't fix their ship.

19. Yeah, New Cap. Notice, they didn't sweep it under the rug, forget it, or say it was ok?

20. The one thing I'm not happy with? Kara's whole "needing to move on" crap, that Leoben's spouting. Fuck that Ascension bullshit, man.

21. IN CLOSING. KARA AND SAM ARE DESTINED, and he will back her to the hilt and never let her go.

I like Donna a lot.

I think Matthias is only the second woman to die this season, and no men (onscreen, that is, there were several women and men on the Pyxis). I doubt her gender has anything to do with, though. What a senseless accident, at an inopportune time. Matthias was an awesome marine.

I like the direction Tory is headed in (she does seem to be channeling D'Anna's spirit), and that Galen took Baltar's hand after all that obstinence.

It was great for Sam/Kara/Leoben-ness. I was ready to draw Spike/Buffy/Angel parallels, but it doesn't work 'cause Leoben wasn't hostile to Sam in any way. If he doesn't know that Sam is an FF Cylon, he suspects it or knows that Sam has experienced some big revelation. As I said at Ragnar Anchorage, "Leoben and Sam should talk more often, they have so much in common. And Cylons are open to threesomes (especially if they involve actual Threes)." Leoben is definitely a mindscrewing bastard, but it's part of his appeal. I loved that he called Sam "another face selling magazines". I liked Sam being on recon, too. Sam is definitely some part of Kara's destiny.

Oh, I love Donna lots, too.

*is too gleefilled to be coherent*

I've seen episodes three and four. She's good in both, of course, particularly four. Selected quotes: "You idiot! They're born with their brains in their hands. A creature like that would have to trust anyone it meets!" "Supertemp!" "You dumbo. Great big outer space dunce!"

Faith looks to be heating up. I really loved the "face" line. It's about time they acknowledge the fact that Sam is very attractive in dialogue.

Oh, the face line was excellent, and I love that it acknowledges something we've speculated about, namely: that Sam was a FRAKKING CELEBRITY...

I almost forgot this Donna quote: "I'll have a salute, please."

There's a Sam Anders quiz and part one of a Michael Trucco video interview at Scifi.com

I saw, and it makes me crack up. The last two questions were from two of the denizens of the Kara/Sam thread on Skiffy. ;]

[identity profile] noybusiness.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure you'd ace the quiz. Did you see the "Inside Look" with Michael Trucco during the commercial break yesterday?

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
hahahah. My question was who was the better kisser--Katee or Rekha. Not sure that's passing...

I DID. And it made me laugh madly and love Trucco even more.

[identity profile] noybusiness.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Your question? For the video interview? I mean the Sam Anders online quiz.

[identity profile] noybusiness.livejournal.com 2008-05-04 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
You know, the online quizzes with questions from the show's history. There's one for Adama, one for Roslin, one for Baltar, one for Tory, one for Sam, one for the Colonials, and one for the Cylons. The highest score is Admiral ("You could lead the fleet to Earth")

ah! Yeah, I'd seen some of those. I took the Sam one and got all ten. I would have been worried, if I hadn't.

[identity profile] noybusiness.livejournal.com 2008-05-04 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I got all ten as well. I was a bit disappointed it wasn't as funny as the Cylons quiz (two for one prophecy day, *dies*) or Tory quiz though.
