er, spoilers for season three?

This keeps bugging me, and I have, like, ten notes in my notebook to randomly bitch about this. Since I'm tired and cranky, now is a good time as any.

Four people are involved in the qod, two males, two females.

In the text, and in fanon, the males resolve their differences and are buddies. They respect each other, like each other, even. And they're sort of commiserating friends. eta: actually, I take part of this back. The text never says either way whether they hate each other. Lee does try to be nice to Sam, though. And Sam doesn't kill him.

Yet the women hate each other.

In canon, there's no evidence of this. There's barely any evidence either way, but there is never evidence that the two can't work together and don't respect each other.

Fanon? Kara hates Dee. Dee hates Kara. Never shall they even consider each other a friend.

Know why?

'Cause they're rivals for a male.

How fucking pathetic is that?

The worst thing? Most of this sentiment comes from women. Yeah, thanks, girls, for buying into that sexist bullshit. I expect it from the guys, but from you liberated, open source boob project-hating women? Not so much.

My junior year of high school, my BFF went to a dance with my boycrush. I dragged a friend along so I had someone to hang out with (she ended up dating a different sort-of-former boycrush of mine at the same dance, and yet didn't ignore me either). We hung out! All of us! Dude. It wasn't a big deal!

Honestly, life is too short to let rivalries over boys get in the way of friendship. Also, I should say that if either the friend or the boy starts asking me to choose, they're going to be mocked. Severely. And also not be the one chosen.

Why would I want to let boys put a damper on my friendships? Boys are nice and all, but they don't get the same things the way other women do. Clearly, we're not made of enough jealousy for traditional American relationship dynamics. (Thank God.)

But, yeah, Dee... doesn't hate Kara, she just doesn't have the time for her. If she needs her, she'll be there to conscript her.

Dee is totally pissed at Lee--in UB, she's uncomfortable with Kara, but it's Lee she wants to smack.

The only good thing to come out of it was the naked Kara... Sigh.

Yeah, it sucks. I liked the QoD, at least, in comparison to the episodes that came right before and right after it it was a masterpiece. Plus, it was the most Sam we got all season. :D But the Kara/Dee stuff vs Lee/Sam is an issue. I think it's not just fandom (though fandom makes it 100X worse than it is in the source.) Lee and Sam started off in a pissing contest but ended up bonding manfully over the shared mission. Kara and Dee were supposed to do the same thing - the writers even said one of the things they liked about the scenario was that Kara was a good enough flight instructor to teach Dee how to fly even when she was in tons of pain and high on Morpha. But they never showed us. All we got were deleted scenes of Lee and Sam commiserating over how the whole thing was Kara's fault, and Kara and Dee commiserating over how the whole thing was Kara's fault. Which is another can of worms.

The text never says either way whether they hate each other. Lee does try to be nice to Sam, though. And Sam doesn't kill him.

I think TSAR showed that they'd become somewhat close after Kara's death, so there's some basis for all the fanon. (Which I love so much more than the "Lee hates Sam because Sam is an evil abuser" fanon!) There's zero evidence that Kara hates Dee. There's some evidence that Dee blamed Kara for Lee's infidelity because it was easier than blaming him, but I think that ended after Rapture/TaB. And it didn't stop Dee from saving her, even then. Grrr. Fandom.

Teaching her to fly would have... sigh. Would have been SO AWESOME. And, well. Made fandom stfu about how they HATE EACH OTHER FOR STEALING LEE FROM EACH OTHER. Or however it's been put.

And here's where I kick the canon, because if the canon can have the boys being all friendly, they can do it for the girls, too, dammit. *kicks the writers*

(ok, so this is mostly because I would like the women on the show to, y'know, actually share scenes with each other, but--)

See, and I spent the entire time their scenes were airing for that ep going, "I bet nobody is gonna write me any Dee/Kara out of this ep. Damn it."
