SFF: Oh, hey, is this thing on?
BSG 4...1? 3? WTF ARE WE CALLING IT NOW? OH HAI OTP.
BSG Extended Unfinished Business: Hrrrrm.
Baltar having a harem is so awesome! No, really! I don't find that misogynistic AT ALL. Nope. Not a bit. In fact, I think it's as awesome as women doing laundry, rubbing their husband's shoulders, and being KIDNAPED AND BRAINWASHED AND BEING BEATEN AS CHILDREN AND ALWAYS BEING DRUNKEN SLUTS.
Why are there women on this show again? Because currently, I don't see them being there to do much more than act as sperm carriers. OH, right, and freaky priestesses channeling 'god'.
Zak was mentioned, proving the comic (which was 'considered canon' by the writing staff *snickers madly*) isn't canon. Hey, Lee? We know what happened when Zak the Cylon showed up. You were really happy when he died.
'Course, Greg Pak didn't make the women do laundry, so maybe that's why?
Not that I can really speak to most of that, since I muted the tv during any scene Kara or Sam wasn't in.
I will give crazyinsane girl points for beating people with a pole, even if it was really stupid that it took her almost being blacked out before she snapped. *eyeroll*
Lee hugging Kara was eyeroll-inducing, as well. It was like slo-mo hell. WE GET THE POINT, HE MISSED HIS ONE TRUE LOVE. CAN WE MOVE ON???
Sam hugging her wasn't long enough, and they didn't kiss. Tsk. He did, however, kiss her cheek, beam madly, and brush his fingers against her face. She totally mocked him for being in pilot gear.
I lied. I didn't mute Caprica and Mom, because the femslashy undertones were cute.
Seelix, as I mentioned before, looks hot in her flight suit. So does Sam, and his freakout was awesome. So was Athena smacking him into order. And Sam in a viper? Also hot. Even if he made a rookie mistake and then saved everyone by ID-ing or something to the raider, making it turn tail and flee. Along with all of its buddies.
I was actually disappointed the raiders didn't open fire on the basestars. THAT would have been way more awesome.
Tigh's little mini-dream of shooting Adama was so obviously a dream it was yawn-inducing. BSG doesn't have the balls to actually do that.
Not that Adama would have died, of course.
The FF scene was funny, because I love the way Sam's leg just won't stay still. He'd probably much rather be up and moving, but there's no room in there for that.
And then there's the corridor scene. Sigh.
I'm glad Kara didn't come back all 'fixed' and zen-like. I'm also glad she doesn't remember needing to be forgiven for being beaten as a child.
Kara's answer to Sam was... Ow. But it's Kara, down to the core--she's not going to betray her principles and claim to love the Cylons, after all. And she really was trying to lighten the mood. I'm pissed that the ship jumped again before she could continue in a half-teasing vein and Sam could feel less paranoid.
Which leads to Sam trying to talk her down when she starts freaking out and--I've seen at least one comment that Kara outfights Sam, and he can't even take down one measly marine, and. Guys. The marine is covered in bullet-stopping protective gear, not to mention: trained to kill. Kara took the first one by surprise and got in a lucky shot over his neck. She bitchslaps the second while Sam is hanging onto her, hampering her movement.
And Sam's instinct is to NOT put the president in danger. His instinct is STILL to doubt Kara's intentions.
Which I'm ok with. Sam still doubts his own intentions, after all. Even as he's trying to affirm to himself that it changes nothing (keep grasping, Sammy).
At that point, Kara sees him as nothing more than an obstacle and clocks him. Be glad she didn't have a frying pan, Sam. After all, we all know the only way Kara can show her love for another is with violence. SINCE YOU KNOW, SHE WAS BEATEN AS A CHILD. Can't forget that.
Then the predictable cliffhanger. Yawn. I'm sure she won't kill Roslin, either.

Extended UB.
First off, I'd like to note that this version flows a HELL of a lot more smoothly. The other is so very choppy, all the little character details barely come across.
Second. The Kara and Sam being adorable and kissy with each other scene? WOW. In the original cut, this scene is Kara going "LEE LEE LOOK, I'M BEING ADORABLE WITH MYHUSBAND BOYFRIEND. OMG. PAY ATTENTION TO ME. PAY ATTENTION TO ME. LOVE ME. OMG." because it's framed with all these THWARTED TRUE LOVE LONGING glances.
In the extended version, the scene is completely Kara and Sam just being adorable and kissy at each other, with her bumping his shoulder and him biting hers and kisses. And at the very end, Kara looks up and notices Lee is there with Dee, and Dee gets dragged off to dance, and Kara looks wistful, like she's wondering if Sam dances.
Third. The dancing scenes, where Lee is all SLOMO OMG MY TRUE LOVE are kinda painful and stupid to watch.
BUT. Lee and Dee being all cute and snuggly and adorable? Awesome. I'm disappointed that Dee didn't drag him off to frak somewhere. DEE. NEXT time, do that. Rly.
Four. Man. The Kara/Lee stuff is so painfully pasted on. It's like, they went "WE NEED MORE ANGST" and shoveled it in there, because it doesn't feel like a natural progression in the least. Not to mention, their sex scene? Still the most unhot (not to mention both participants look bored out of their skulls) sex I've ever seen. Maybe next time they could spray them down a little, give them that sweaty, "we just had good sex" look instead of the "Lee inserts his magic penis in and Kara comes, yay!" look.
Five. I love the scene with Tigh. Gods. That's the kind of shit I've wanted since Kara was made CAG, dammit. Also, it answers a question--or maybe it doesn't. Kara and Tigh share a drink back in the mini, don't they? HEY, RON. TRY REMEMBERING YOUR OWN CANON.--anyway, it answers the question of whether Kara brought alcohol to their morning conferences when she was CAG. Sigh.
Six. Wait, speaking of, though, and this is from the Kara and Lee in her house bit. Kara really does think flying now will be boring. I find that amusing, and very true to other things I've seen (most notably, Johnny McKay in Tour of Duty, realizing that having been a combat pilot, flying as a civvie was something he HATED). It also amuses me that Kara wasn't going to get married until Lee made her choose between him and Sam. HEY, LEE. Next time, try not to suggest that she has to choose and maybe she'll take her time thinking about it, instead of following her happiness and gut instinct.
Seven. Mom and Dad getting high and snuggling is the most adorable thing ever.
Eight. They could have cut out all the boxing, and the episode would have been 1000000000 times better. Except for the Athena and Kara scene. Which shouldn't have been cut from the original, since, dude, TWO WOMEN ACTUALLY TALKED. OMG. Although it was about men, so maybe it doesn't count? Sigh. It's good to see Sharon and Kara are talking, though.
Nine. I need to find the opening in an editable form, because there's about five clips of Kara and Sam having sex. And it's not just, like, a one-climax deal. Also, he's got her hands pressed down to the mattress at one point, not to mention, the straining towards the end when he nearly slams her head into the rack above, and--
It's hot. 'S all I'm saying.
Ten. Not that, in the end, this episode had any impact on the show as a whole. Pity, that.

I just think it's utter bullshit.

Now that's just crazy talk!
no subject
Don't answer that, it'll depress me.
huh. Why do I not have more Aeryn Sun icons?

I know people who watch Supernatural, and from the sound of things, that show's issues with strong female characters are far, far more egregious than BSG's. Which doesn't actually make me feel any better about BSG's stupid issues.
On the other hand, in 4.01 there was a minimum of "Kara Thrace is a damaged human being, DAMAGED, I tell you." And we did get Roslin and Starbuck interaction for the first time in a long while. And they interacted as two people, rather than only talking about the men in their lives. Which really shouldn't thrill me, because it's such a little thing. I guess my expectations are really damn low.
no subject
We also got some awesome Caprica and Roslin interaction, and, dammit, there HAS to be Sharon and Kara at some point, because. Dude. They were friends! Sigh.
*kicks the writers*

And yes, SOME interaction between Athena and Starbuck would be really damn nice at some point this season. I'm thinking any Roslin/Caprica/Athena interactions could well be explosive, because here are three women who don't necessarily like each other (to put it mildly) being drawn together by visions.

I'd recommend just finding the bits on youtube, really.

Everybody is making such a big deal of the length of hugs but I think Kara was weirded out by everyone's behaviour. First the stares. Then Lee!hug. Then Sam. She just reached plateau of weirdness. After all for her it was just few hours and everyone's acting like she was miraculously brought back to life. So she just looks in his eyes and says she's fine. And then notice the flight suit.
And you know Kara's statement about 'shooting cylons' was there only so the Four could be a secret little longer. Sam would've told her otherwise.
no subject
I'm not sure Sam would have told her, actually. But, I don't mind the line from Kara so much. It stomps on his heart a little, but it'll hopefully make it more awesome when she finds out and doesn't shoot him.
