oh, Tour of Duty...

I've been re-watching it. It's been twenty years.

And I'm through the first season and into season one, and I realized something.

I love Sarge, he's awesome. LT? Also fun, and skinnily cute. The rest of the boys? Get half-naked a lot (man). But. I miss Horan. He was wounded and sent back home at the end of the first season, and I miss him. He makes me think inappropriate thoughts.

Horan, in fact, makes me want to write self-insert Mary Sue fic so she can climb him like a tree.

sigh.

I blame Sam Anders.

I'd also forgotten how much of a jackass McKay was. Man. He would give Kara a run for her money and then she'd kick him in the balls.

You and rebelliousrose are taking me back! She just mentioned China Beach over at Kindreds the other day, and now you're talking about Tour of Duty. I watched both of those shows in high school - having a dad who was a Vietnam vet and being a little wannabe hippy/liberal girl myself. But yeah, the hotness was certainly there in both shows.

Are the DVDs out?

Hee. Yeah, it's on dvd, thank goodness. Some of the early season one stuff is... execrable, but it improves, and by season two, they've hit a really good stride.

I think my parents were a bit pleased to find a show that was so incredibly critical of the war while still being supportive of the kids who were over there. Or maybe my mother was just enthralled with Sarge. Not that it matters, I remember it being one of the few things we would watch.

The only problem I have is they had to pull the original theme song (Paint it Black), probably because of licensing reasons. Sigh.

Awesome to see I wasn't the only person who enjoyed this show. My brothers and I used to watch this all the time when it first ran back in the '80s.
