Fic roundup for Jan and Feb

Curiously, January had more fic. Or maybe not so much. In other news, I dreamt in Forensic Files and also wrote a scathing diatribe re: the Atlantis episode Michael.

ETA: Also, I hope more people are going to get interested in a Kara Thrace Drabble-athon. Right now, only ten people would write or do art. And only 24 have taken the poll. That's not going to net us more than a page of fic/art, at most. (translation: it doesn't look like people would participate enough to make it have a point. Am I surprised? No. BSG fandom is small, and female characters aren't the focus so much anymore.)

Slightly snarky commentary or descriptions. It's early, and I haven't had caffeine yet.

January
SG: Atlantis
- Even in Darkness = Teyla vs. The World = Teyla being more awesome than God.
- Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot - BAMSR insert. Hey, if the writers and show won't let the women interact, I guess someone has to fill in the blanks.
- mini Liz/John ficlet - Angsty and sorta spoilery, except only for mid-season-four.

BSG
- Dodging Reality - Kara/Anders, pre-NC/post-Rescue fic.
- Resistance By Any Other Name... - How the resistance on New Caprica really should have been run: by Kara and Dee and Boomer.
- All's Fair - Kara/Sam New Caprica fic.
- Top to Bottom - Kara/Sam, post-Taking a Break.
- Snowflakes on Eyelashes - Kara/Sam, New Caprica fic.

Crossovers
- Just for a Day - TV Dresden Files/BSG, Murphy gets laid by Sam Anders.
- In the Cold Dim Light - Torchwood/Resident Evil. Apparently, this one was so bad, no one read it.
- Five Punches Kara Thrace Doesn't Regret - BSG and Bones, Angel: the Series, Torchwood, Stargate: Atlantis, Fantastic Four (movieverse). Kara/Sam, obviously.

-=

February

RPF
- Tits on the Radio - Katee/Trucco

BSG
- One of These Mornings - Sam Anders, post-Farm angst.
- Glass Half-Full - ShAgathon fic, Helo/Sam, references both het pairings.

Buffy: the Vampire Slayer
- Connection - Kendra fic. Still don't know where this came from.

Star Trek: The Next Generation
- Not So Proper Order - Beverly/Jean-Luc porn (technically, a crossover, since Kara/Sam is referenced, but, dude, I don't get into the logistics of that at all)

Stargate: SG-1
- Accidents Will Happen - Sam/Jack. It's been a while, baby.

Stargate: Atlantis
- Somewhere Along the Line - More BAMSR insert, this one again has Teyla being awesome and interacting with someone who has two X-chromosomes.

-

Things.

1. I still write far too many women.

2. I still hate Atlantis fandom.

3. I still hate Torchwood fandom.

4. Buffy and TNG were a bit of a surprise, but I guess I really do write for myself.

5. Not enough Kara/Sam in February. I should remedy that.

1. No such thing!
2. AH AGREE.
3. No comment as I don't watch Torchwood, so I have very, very limited exposure to the fandom.
4. BEV. JEAN-LUC. DEANNA!
5. *sniggers*

1. Good.
4. Dude, I went through the 91-96 calendars last night, and cut out all the hot hot Bev, Jean-Luc and Deanna photos. Also, Guinan and a Worf or Data. BUT. Mostly Bev and Deanna and Jean-Luc.
5. *sticks out tongue*

Also, dude, I have forgotten my basic html skills. O.o Obviously, it has been TOO LONG since I updated anything.

[identity profile] aj.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
OH, BEV. I still find it telling that Jean-Luc's dream happy world included redheaded children. He is so transparent. *thwacks him*

And yeah, I had a few moments like that when I updated my site. Which! Is up to date! OMG!

Man. I had not thought of that. Dude.

bah. You're up to date, I'm like two years behind. This is gonna hurt in five hours.

He is a huge dork. Repressed too. S'why Bev needs to kick him a lot. (Fun for all!)

And to be fair, when I DID update it, it was like three years behind. Admittedly, you write way more than I do. *pets your hair*

Very fun for all *ignores the part where canon claims she'd never see him that way, as Gates is totally of the opinion they were doing it, and that is far far more awesome* (also, please note that RON was on TNG, so, obviously, he has it in for my OTPs...)

Yeah, you were. That's very true. I'm just kicking myself, though, because it's finally occurred to me that if I do the basicest of html for my ff'net uploads, I have done 90% of my own damned work already, and I could have been doing this for months and wasn't, and ARGH.

*rolls eyes* Despite the fact that she was IN HIS HEAD for two days? WHATEVS. Besides, hi. He's freaking Patrick Stewart. And while I'm all for Bev being down with the femslash, I know lesbians who'd happily tackle Patrick Stewart. THAT EXCUSE DOESN'T WORK.

And if Gates is all "So. Doing. It." = more canon than canon.

*pets your hair* I'm sorry.

BSG fandom is small, and female characters aren't the focus so much anymore.

What?! ...No, don't tell me. I don't want to know. *continues to avoid BSG fandom, and not just because of spoilers*

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude. I wonder if you could make Kara-shaped cookies.

[identity profile] thirdblindmouse.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I could if Kara would, um, impersonate a round flat thing...

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if you went for a side-view, you could sorta frost on the tattoo, and have boobs... But I think, sadly, you'd just end up with a Generic Viper Pilot thing. Hrm.

[identity profile] thirdblindmouse.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
If they sold ready-made Kara cookie cutters this would not be a problem. *looks at RDM expectantly*

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Man. Obviously, Ron has never considered the profitability of BSG-themed baking implements. We could have a mixer shaped like a viper! And cake pans shaped like battlestars and cookie cutters that are peopled and rank insignia. And spatulas shaped like raptors and--

I should write him these ideas!

[identity profile] thirdblindmouse.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
cake pans shaped like battlestars

Ooh, I want one in the shape of a basestar. 3D, even, if such a cake shape could be made with the right supports.

Wait, wait. I forgot. Women viewers aren't wanted (this is science fiction, for crying out loud!), and Real Men don't cook. I guess we'll have to scrap this plan.

[identity profile] thirdblindmouse.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, also: wrote a scathing diatribe re: the Atlantis episode Michael. <- Is this posted? Because OMG someone talking about an Atlantis episode that I've seen. And one of the rare few that I liked.
ext_18106: (Teyla)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, no. I wrote it in my dream this morning, in a wacky half-awake state where I kept grumbling about stupid meta. I don't remember much, other than bitching about Teyla being underused and then the damsel in distress.

Also. Um. I hate Michael almost as much as I hate Kolya. But I do hate NCIS's Ari more.

[identity profile] thirdblindmouse.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas. I guess it's for the best; complaints against SGA would be a hard sell on me this morning, because last night I watched the first episode of SG-1. Again. This time I made it through the first harem-and-prospective-lesbian-rape scene, with liberal use of fast-forward, and got the pleasant surprise of another alien-lesbian-rape scene, this time with an even higher amount of full frontal nudity and phallic imagery! But I understand why they did it -- otherwise the series couldn't begin, because Daniel would be all Domestic instead of having of the Man Angst.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, that's the last time we get to see boobies, so count yourself lucky. And no, they didn't do it for Daniel, they did it because it was Showtime.

Personally, I would have skipped the episode, as well as the next three, since they suck. Hell. Most of season one is awful.

[identity profile] thirdblindmouse.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I wanted to see more Jack. He's not so much himself the first episode, though, so it turned out to be a waste. The file had a gap in it spanning the time where Teal'c goes from bad guy to good, however, so I'm still curious about that. But if you have any recommendations for episodes to skip to, I'd take them. I've seen a fair smattering of the first season episodes already.
ext_18106: (Default)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
er, honestly, I'd skip all but the last two or three first-season episodes. I think one is a clip show that could give you all you need to know about what you missed.

As for Teal'c, he... He shoots someone, after Jack pleads about innocent people or something and then Jack offers him a home on Earth. Or something. I don't remember much, anymore.
