Oh, Atlantis fandom... Never stop sucking.

Anyway. In response to this "best team evah!" thingie which contains 3/4 of said team, not all of it, I made this.

1. Contains spoilers for Atlantis season four.
2. I stopped watching over four weeks ago. If any of this has changed (yeah, right), it's not my fault.

eta: Edited Teyla's for clarification

You did post this (either in the comments or on the comm), right?

[identity profile] antiwesley.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
And I expect that you heard the news that the lovely Ms. Tapping was heading off-series as well, as her starring/produced show got the green light, so she's off on her own now.

"Sanctuary Pickup - SciFi has picked up the web series Sanctuary,
starring and co-produced by Amanda Tapping. As a result of this,
Tapping will move back to an occasional guest star role on
Stargate Atlantis. The initial batch of Sanctuary episodes done
for the web will be reworked and expanded to make a two hour
pilot movie opener for the series. For more on the series in its
web form, visit www.sanctuary4all.com . For an interview with
Amanda Tapping about the pickup and plans for the series, visit
gateworld.net/news/2008/02/tapping_talks_isanctuaryi_iatlan.shtml

Stargate Atlantis Gets new Boss - With Amanda Tapping committed
to Sanctuary, she will no longer be a regular on Stargate
Atlantis. Taking over as the person in charge of the Atlantis
outpost will be Richard Woolsey (Robert Picardo). Paul McGillion
will return for five episodes as Dr. Carson Beckett. Joining
the cast as a recurring character is Leela Savasta as Captain
Alice Vega, who will be commanding her own recon team. Savasta
also has a recurring role in Battlestar Galactica as Tracey Anne."

BRILLIANT. It explains why SGA now makes me feel dirty and used, and not in the fun way.

I think you make me stare in horror at the 2 seasons sitting in my DVD backlog...

Yup, I knew both of those. Well, not who they'd cast as Captain Vega.

I love you right now more than I can say. :D

I shall hope.

Important Question: Go ahead and watch all of S8 of SG1 before SGA S1, or alternate discs?

Lyssie, I love this pic, and want to pet it and cuddle it and offer to have its photomanipped little babies. I'm so linking this in my LJ.

Oh, good! I was going to second that request for it if you hadn't already done so.

This rules, and it's so true! I'm definitely going to link this on my lj too. :)

Top pic is beautiful. Bottom pic depresses me something fierce. It really brings home the whole sorry business seeing it all laid out like that. I think it's time for an angry mob.

Watch all of s8, since it doesn't impact Atlantis at all iirc. (maybe one episode is? hrm) because Atlantis is mostly cut off from Earth completely in season one.

I <3 you and I <3 this picture

I get the point your making, but using "barefoot and pregnant" for Teyla comes across wrong. If the writers had written in a pregnancy just for story purposes, then yeah. But since the storyline was written to actually accommodate the actress, not diminish the character, that's cutting off your nose to spite your face. It's hard enough for women in career fields, especially television acting, to have kids and maintain their jobs without slapping that label on her character.

[identity profile] miera-c.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it comes across as wrong at all. Dozens of shows have written around the pregnancies of their actresses. They didn't have to write it into the show just because the actress was pregnant. It may have been Rachel's preference that they did it this way, but it wasn't mandatory. We don't know. But they didn't write around it, they made it her entire existence all season. I'm not saying it was badly written, but after 3 seasons of her having no function other than to be the Exotic Alien Babe (Xena Edition) with the freakish mutant DNA power, we got "barefoot and pregnant."

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Given the reaction to Teyla being pregnant wasn't "Shooting things makes me feel better" but rather "I'm a pregnant, delicate flower who is too stupid to understand anything and must be told by the Men" I think it fits, personally.

[identity profile] gemsweater.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed -- take, for instance, Kira on Deep Space Nine. The actress' pregnancy was written in in the fourth season, but as a series regular she still appeared in basically every episode until the end of month eight! It may have been the actress' choice to work that hard but the thing was that the writers/producers kept including her in storylines on both a serial and episodic basis.

(Of course, DS9 could teach both Stargates about a million lessons on how to treat women characters, but that's a rant for another time.)

(Also, sorry for barging in. I'm here via [livejournal.com profile] miera_c.)

Also spotted this via [livejournal.com profile] angelqueen04's lj. And am linking to it on mine.

Because this is frakkin' priceless! :)

I am sooo tempted to print a couple dozen BOXES of copies of this and hand them out at Comic-Con in San Diego this summer. Like, right as people are walking into the SGA discussion panel. *evil grin*

Dude, DS9 could school pretty much every other scifi show on a LOT of things.
