oh, snow.

Um. It is not stopping. And the roads are awful. And. Y'know, if I lived a mile or two away from work, I'd go. But I don't. And I want to be able to get HOME. So I have called and said I won't be in today. Sigh.

Which is just as well. The kitchen is a mess.

eta: Also. I had this thought in the shower. If one casted SG: Atlantis using the gender/racial makeup of my office, it would be 90% female, 40% people of color, and the 60% caucasian would be a mixture of German, American, Czech and Irish.

I'm glad you didn't go in. They don't pay you enough to risk it...plus, more play time is never a bad thing!

This is quite true. Also, I talked to the big boss and she said they were thinking of making it a really short day, anyway.

[identity profile] mrsdrjackson.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That is good, I'm sure a lot of places that can close today are going to (or make it a short day) just cause the bosses want to be able to get home too.

This is one of those times when I wish I worked at a place that was able to close. The hospital is going to be insane today...

Ack. I'm sorry, darlin'. :/

You want us to write you fic while you're there? ([livejournal.com profile] havocthecat and I have already decided our flists should entertain us thusly)

*is posting from work when she's not supposed to be* lol
Oh that would be excellent! Especially since my 5 hour shift has now turned into a 10 hour shift. o_0

Just a little south of you here, we're getting sleet. And we got sleet all night. So it's a major mess.

Plus, that snow is supposed to be getting here any minute now. To land on top of the sleet.

Even so, I came to work. Sigh.

Ugh. Be careful driving.

Tom saw the weather forecast for WI last night and said, "I think we're going to have to ship Lyssie a sled and some huskies."

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
AHAhahah. Yes. We were joking about that, at work last night. Sleds and jingle bells!

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
You could totally pimp out your sled, yo! The only possible downside would be the adventure you'd have if you needed to get Quin to the vet. :p

And, LJ does not seem to be mailing me comments. ¬_¬

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Black bells! Purple ribbons!

Quin... Yeah.

I think it's having issues. Mebbe there are kobolds in California?

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't forget the shiny rhinestone... thingies. For sparkly goodness!

I can see it now...

Quin: ....what the hell do you call this? Where is my personal heater vent? WHY AM I EXPOSED TO THE COLD THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. As soon as I claw my way out of this box I will KILL YOU, puny human!
Dogs: OOOOOH LOOK LOOK SMALL FLUFFY FELINE *are all distracted from doing anything like, pulling said sled*
Quin: *hiss, spit, etc*

Good, good, good. They closed the damn city. I am still reeling over this.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
They did? Wait, does that mean [livejournal.com profile] nique doesn't have to go to work?

[identity profile] arrshley.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeees. They've even got it in yellow at the top of their website (http://mpl.org/).

All non-essential workers need not report in and that means us! Doesn't that just make you feel all warm and fuzzy. Well, it damn well does in this case anyway. ;)

AHAHAH. I will let her know, when she eventually gets up. MAN. That is kind of awesome, because Milwaukee almost NEVER seems to close down, EVER.

Well, I know I'm warm and fuzzy, even if I'm dressed to go outside in the public eye...

[identity profile] arrshley.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
*G* Innit? I am in a happy kind of shock. Wooo, city sanctioned snow day!

[identity profile] mamaboolj.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
This is one of the few drawbacks to working from home - you never get the day off for weather although we still have to shovel snow, deal with kids home for snow days, crap like that. Enjoy your day at home.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw. And, see, if I could actually do some work from home, I would. I just don't want to drive out there.

[identity profile] lizardbeth-j.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I will be very very quiet about my weather.... :)

Good for you not going in though. Sounds icky.
ext_18106: (Anders sweet)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Very icky. It's even worse now. The snow is coating our screens.

[identity profile] thirdblindmouse.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep ending up in 90% female work environments. Healthcare and libraries are not all that gender balanced. What field is your workplace, if I may ask?
ext_18106: (Jo Obsession)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Accounting. Most of the offices I've worked in have been mostly female.

[identity profile] thirdblindmouse.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
*thinks* The only accountants I've ever met were female. (Still are, probably.)

Women are more awesome with numbers? (I know, I know, I'm being sexist. Forty lashes with a wet noodle.)

[identity profile] thirdblindmouse.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I think it's fair. As Larry Summers said, if men were good with numbers, there would be more of them in the sciences. (My mother and grandmother are math people, my father and grandfather historians.)

[identity profile] ladyniko.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Dude.... "Wind gusts reached 40 mph and the snow piled up at one to two-inches per hour." per the JS Online site.

Man, I'm so damn glad I don't live up in your area, Lyssie! I'll take the monsoons along w/ hail yesterday compared to that! :-p

Because, while it is colder here today, there is no snow on the ground - everything we had last Thursday - gone.
