Stupid Shipper Tricks: Solace in the Crazy at the S/J List

So, to recover from the fact that Kara/Anders shippers on Skiffy are Dee-bashing (get the fuck out of my 'ship, you assholes), I wandered over to the Sam/Jack list to see if there was any prime wank... Instead, I found requests for fic where Sam and/or Jack is suicidal, with people telling the requesters they were awesome fics.

'Cause, I know I'm always happy when Sam tries to kill herself over Jack, or Jack kills himself over Sam or--

Yeah.

At least they want equal-opportunity death?

But the Sam/Jack Yahoo list is full of some of the scariest shippers I have. ever. met. Hands down. Sometimes, I think the McKay/Sheppard, or Kara/Lee shippers are scary? NOT SO.

These are the people who were going to write letters telling the people in charge that if there was no Sam/Jack resolution in season ten, they would stop watching the show/boycott/etc.

They're also the people who generally put me off Sam/Jack. Luckily, there are some awesome, awesome Sam/Jack shippers on my flist who are SANE.

Well. As sane as anyone who friends me is.

I fled the Kara/Lee fandom out of fear of the scariness of the fans' reaction to Kara's "disloyalty" towards Lee with Anders and Baltar (and the scary rationalizations how Lee sleeping with the hooker in Black Market showed his true love for Kara). Now in Sam/Jack I find some of the same craziness. I'll admit that it's canon that Jack was clinically depressed / MAYBE near suicide after the death of his son (fondling a gun in your recently dead son's bedroom isn't the mentally healthiest of activities! Nor is going on a suicidal mission for the Air Force), but come on, he hasn't been like that for the entirety of the series. No rational adult would ever tell their partner (no matter how much they are "soul mates bound together forever by the stars" lol) that they would commit suicide if they died. It's creepy AND just a tad mentally unhinged. When I imagine ANYONE saying that to ever so rational, scientist down to the bone Sam, all i can do is picture her laughing and then backing away in fear when she realized that they were serious!

The hilariousness that would ensue if someone wrote a fic where Jack decided to play a joke on Sam by reading some of the badfics out there to her pretending to be serious. Of course, Sam would have Jack locked up under the suspicion of alien influence. OMG, that would be hilarious! Since none of these people have a sense of humor when it comes to their OTP of Jack and Sam and how they MUST be together (and hence watch Atlantis S4 ONLY to find hidden "evidence" that they are together), it would NOT be pretty to receive all the nasty emails.

IMHO, they jumped each other at irregular intervals throughout the series whenever the stress got too bad or they thought they were stranded for good. They just kept telling each other that it didn't count due to various rationalizations. LOL... once they started openly dating in Season 9, everyone in Washington was like "Wait, haven't you two been sleeping together for years? Everyone said you were." And Jack said, "Jeez... we could have been having sex regularly all those years and NOT been arrested??". And Sam pats Jack on the cheek and says "well, we just have to make up for all that unneeded abstinence" and locks his office door. Of course, Sam has banned sex in her Atlantis office due the glass despite Jack's attempts to convince her otherwise. Hee hee hee

Oh, my personal canon is wonderfully fluid, when it comes to Sam and Jack. Sigh. It has to be.

Man, avoid the Yahoo list, because there you will find people who think Sam should be punished for cheating on Jack with Pete.

And, honestly, if I had to measure the batshit, BSG's is more concentrated, but a lot of BSG K/L shippers started out Sam/Jack shippers. Or, in some cases, Jack/Daniel shippers. (which still amuses me no end) And in the end? Sam/Jack still has them beat.

At least until Jaka becomes a Kara/Lee shipper.
