as if this week wasn't going to be bad enough...

I'm working early and late every day to make up losing half of Thursday and all of Friday. Then, on Saturday, my teeth have a brilliant idea: let's get an abscess going!

See, the first root canal I had done, back in early '06 has never been quite right. They've x-rayed, and I've said, "duh, it hurts". But the usual response is "omg, root canal! Nothing to hurt!" Which, yeah, whatever. So I've kinda been waiting for whatever microscopic thingies are lurking in there to build up enough that, y'know, I'm not just having Phantom Root Syndrome.

Apparently, Saturday was that day. Couldn't eat on that side at all, due to pressure making me whimper in pain. Sunday, the pain shifted a little, as the abscess grew upwards towards my sinuses. Still hurt to chew, but not so much.

Cue today, with me calling and saying, "I need to come in."

Dentist, after I've explained: "Well, you know that one has a root canal, so that can't be it." Oh. Oh, it can't? Huh. Well, I guess it must be the tooth next to it, and the abscess is just taking the path of fucking least resistance, then.

X-rays occur. Dentist stares at them, eyes me, refers me to an oral surgeon, because it 'looks like there might be something there'. and then helpfully shows me on the x-ray. Gosh. Because the fact that my entire check is swollen and I can't move without wanting to kick things from the pain? Totally in my head until that x-ray proves something is wrong. *headdesk*

And then I demanded a scrip for antibiotics, because, fuck, if I'm going to endure this thing for longer than I have to. Also? At the rate the fucker is growing, I'd be blind on the right side because my eye would be swollen shut by morning.

So I have an appointment with the endodontist tomorrow. At 8 a.m. And gods know how long that will take, or how much time I'll end up losing off this paycheck.

This week is just going great.

Oh, jeez, that sucks. I've never had that problem myself, but my mom has, complete with fighting with the dentist about which tooth it is, because the tooth in question had a root canal eons ago. And she only used to be a hygienist, so what does she know? I hope this gets dealt with as painlessly, quicky, and cost-effectively as possible.

I'm a temp. We don't get sick days. Although I have the feeling if I go in today, my boss is gonna point at the door and tell me to "go home". But first, the dentist, who may shoot me up with enough crap to make me unable to do more than go home, anyway.
