Doctor Who Companion Drabble Tag
Rules: Write a drabble based on one of the prompts (or something longer, as long as it fits in a comment--and if it doesn't, post a link, etc), and then put up three requests of your own.
Prompts should look something like:
Companion, prompt word/phrase/etc
No pining for the Doctor allowed, and, hell, if you can manage it, no mentions of the Doctor at all. This is about companions and their lives, not his. Did they do wonderful things before him? After him?
Companions: anyone who has traveled with the Doctor/spent considerable amounts of time with him. The Brigadier counts. The Rani does not. Sally Sparrow sneaks in on account of being awesome. Torchwood members count, since there's grandfathering involved, even if the place was originally conceived of to foil the Doctor.
Pimp far and wide, as need be. Assume spoilers for everything up through newskool Season Three, though the current prompts are all oldskool.
Do I really need to say no character-bashing? Good.

Hope This Is Acceptable?
“Bookmakers have slashed the odds on the existence of extra-terrestrial intelligence to a hundred to one after scientists working at Britain’s Joddrell Bank Observatory announced the discovery of a new Earth-like planet.”
She snorts- a little more bitterness in the sound than she’d ever admit to under torture- and opens the night’s second bottle of wine before declaiming to the empty room, memories she’d thought long forgotten dancing in the flickering light of the TV screen.
“Who says it exists here?”
