Meme time!

So, I grabbed both of these a while back, don't remember from where... And did them partly, then rebooted and promptly forgot. I just found them because I was putting more text from work in a file. So. Finished them.

That ten characters meme (with someone's variations).
1. Kara Thrace
2. Leia
3. Aeryn Sun
4. Major Kusanagi
5. Sabrina Spellman
6. Batman
7. Marcus Cole
8. Elizabeth Swann
9. Sam Anders
10. Jane Vasko
(they were chosen mostly randomly)

1. Divide the list up by even and odd. Which group of five would make a better Five Man Band (like a Power Rangers team)? Who would you slot in each position: Leader, Lancer (second-in-command), Big Guy, Smart Guy, The Chick? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the even and odd groups, which ones would you switch?

Evens: Leia, The Major, Batman, Liz Swann and Jane Vasko. ... dude. Um. Shit. Leia in charge, with Kusanagi as her second, Liz Swann is the Smart Guy, Vasko is the Big Guy (she can take any damage you throw at her, though not quite as much as the Major), and Batman is the Chick. You really don't want to piss ANY of them off, because they'll feed you your tonsils for breakfast.

Odds: Kara Thrace, Aeryn Sun, Sabrina Spellman, Marcus Cole and Sam Anders. Not quite such heavy hitters. There would be arguments, but. Aeryn Sun in charge, Sam Anders as her second-in-command (he's level-headed enough, and he thinks outside the box), Marcus Cole is the Smart Guy (he also thinks...), Kara Thrace is the Big Guy, leaving Sabrina Spellman as the Chick (if you call her that, she'll punch you).

The Evens win this one from sheer awesomeness, but the Odds certainly have all of the out-of-the-box thinking they could ever need. They're sneakier.

2. Gender-swap 5, 8 & 10. Which character would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believable as the opposite sex?
Sabrina, Elizabeth Swann, Jane Vasko. Oh. Lessee. Jane Vasko would become Wolverine. Sabrina's aunts probably wouldn't have wanted to adopt 'him', so, I think his story would end up being the most changed. And it's already been said by (some of) fandom at large that Liz Swann as a boy would be more believable, but I think that's bullshit. I'd find her boring.

Actually, all of them are less interesting as boys.

Angelwing variant: 2, 8 & 10. -
Leia. Nononono. I prefer the variant where Leia's the one on Tattooine, and Luke's the diplomat who gets caught by Vader. Because Leia would make one hell of a kickass viper X-wing pilot. And she'd be even more hot. Um. Yes.

3. Compare the matchups of 5 & 8 and 2 & 9. (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment.) Which couple would be more compatible? Which couple would be more plausible to people from either principals home culture?>
Sabrina and Liz Swann, or Liz Swann and Jane Vasko.

Crap. Tough call. I actually think Liz and Jane would be better suited, as they're both more adrenaline junkies than Sabrina. Liz with a girl wouldn't be plausible to her home culture, but Jane's would be fine with it. Sabrina's... well, maybe. Liz would certainly be smarter than Harvey.

Angelwing variant: 1+8, 5+9.
Kara Thrace/Liz Swann, Sabrina Spellman/Sam Anders.

omg. Sabrina/Sam would be the CUTEST THING EVER. And Sam would totally catch on to the magic thing and smack her if she tried it on him. Kara and Liz, otoh, would RULE THE WORLD.

4. Your team is 3, 4 & 6. The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?
Aeryn Sun, Major Kusanagi, Batman

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

No, really.

HAHHAHAHAHAHAH.

Ahem. Batman gets the social one, Kusanagi gets the mental one, and Aeryn gets the physical.

Angelwing variant: 3, 4 & 9.
Sam Anders substituted for Batman gets the same results. Except there might be a hot threesome.

5. 7 becomes 5's boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's their working relationship?
Marcus Cole, Sabrina Spellman.

Probably fairly good. Marcus has led people before, and Sabrina would probably take orders ok... Of course, she'd drive him insane, and she'd want to magic a little less honor onto him. And possibly send him naked to Ivanova.

Angelwing variant: 7 and 1.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

Oh. Oh, wow. Um. Marcus in charge of Kara Thrace.

Yes. Yes that was the universe whimpering a surrender. *snickers*

6. 1 finds him/her/itself inserted into 6's continuity. As far as anyone other than 1 or 6 is concerned, they've always been there. What role would 1 be presumed to have had in 6's story, and could they fit in without going wonky?
Kara Thrace inserted into Batman continuity.... er.

The only thing I'm coming up with is some random pilot chick turned vigilante. And doesn't DC have enough of those?

Angelwing variant: 2 & 6.
Leia.

Socialite by day, catburglar by night. She'd kick his ass a lot, and possibly marry Alfred.

7. 3 and 7 get three wishes. The catch is that they have to agree on all three wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What three wishes would they make? - Aeryn Sun and Marcus Cole.

Oh my. Um. Actually, this might work out all right. Marcus would be a little grating, but he'd slowly charm Aeryn. And they'd agree that a nice spaceship with weapons was good. Then they'd get distracted because Marcus would find them a Cause to go after.... Aeryn would get sucked into the Cause, but they'd end up killing everyone and then Marcus would be depressed until Aeryn flew them to B5 where he pestered Ivanova for a while, Aeryn got drunk with Garibaldi, and they both gave Delenn the last two wishes since they've no use for them.

Angelwing variant: 3 & 5. - Aeryn Sun and Sabrina Spellman.
*snerk*
Whatever Aeryn wanted, Aeryn would get. Although Sabrina would remind her of a bad mix of Zhaan and Chiana and she might airlock her, eventually.

8. 6 and 3 are brainwashed by a one-time artifact that works even on people immune to mind control to attack and kill 1. They keep their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any Code vs. Killing has been turned off. Can 1 survive? How?
Batman and Aeryn are brainwashed into trying to kill Kara Thrace.

Um. They'd win. Kara's good, but she's not THAT good. And while Batman wouldn't give a crap afterwards, Aeryn would probably feel sad.

Angelwing variant: 1 and 2 versus 4.
Kara and Leia against Major Kusanagi.

Yeah, the Major's gonna win that one.

9. 1, 6, 7 & 9 must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa? Kara, Batman, Marcus and Sam Anders.
Well. Sam and Marcus would argue over who got to be Santa, and Kara would solve the issue by plunking the hat on Batman and telling Sam he could be an elf. There would probably be flirting involved which led to Marcus sighing and Batman telling them to get a room. And then Kara would decide she didn't like kids and stay on the roof with the raptor that pretended to be a sleigh and Marcus would eventually wander up and poke at her and possibly get hit while Sam had a blast with the kids and Batman cracked a smile.

Angelwing variant: 6,7,9 & 10 - Same, with Jane Vasko instead of Kara.
Pretty much the same, except Jane kinda likes kids and would worry about Kara throwing her out an airlock if she flirted with Sam, so she'd stick to trying to sex Batman, since he's hot.

10. 3 and 10 are challenged to circumnavigate the Earth in eighty days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or will they be fatally distracted by sidequests or their own personality conflicts? Aeryn Sun and Jane Vasko.

My god. Earth would never be the same again.

There would be a lot of gunfire. And bitching. And alcohol. And they might say 'fuck it' and give up somewhere in the Himalayas. Also, they would probably both end up with people chasing them--one's an alien and the other's a 'modified human', after all. (if someone wants to write me that fic, I might loooove you)

Angelwing variant: 3 & 8. - Aeryn Sun and Elizabeth Swann

My god. Earth would never be the same again.

No, seriously. Putting two of the most competent, capable and kickass women together would result in the Earth being circumnavigated two or three times out of boredom. Possibly in a pirate vessel.

That five 'ships meme.
Pick five OTPs, preferably from different fandoms, and answer the following questions.
1. Kara Thrace/Sam Anders (BSG)
2. Aeryn Sun/John Crichton (Farscape)
3. Sam Carter/Cameron Mitchell (SG-1)
4. Kitty Pryde/Pete Wisdom (X-Men)
5. Domino/Cable (X-Men)

1. When did you first fall in love with ship number 1? (Kara Thrace/Sam Anders)
They had me from "Doin' what?" on Kara's part, and Sam's look of "Either I'm gonna kill her, or I'm beginning to like her..." in Resistance. And then there was foreplay in the form of a hot and sweaty pyramid game, which ended with Kara giving him the "we go sex now, yes?" look.

2. When did you fall in love with ship number 5? (Domino/Cable)
Oh dear lord. I have no idea. Legion Quest? Before that? The problem is all that Phalanx stuff, AOA, and old issues of X-Force were all read in random order, so I kind of already assumed they were sexing long before Nate actually kissed her. If that makes sense.

3. What is your favorite moment of ship number 3? (Sam/Cam)
Cameron not letting her die, when she was convinced she would. AND THEN HE BAKED COOKIES.

4. What will the ship be if you take the boy from ship 2 and the girl from ship 1 and mesh them? If one or both of the ships are slash, then pick and choose.
Kara Thrace/John Crichton... shit. Highly angsty in that Aeryn and Sam are dead way, wherein they're using each other. Probably lots of stuff about her drinking far too much, knives of pain under both their skins, and Crichton trying to get them lost in space.

5. Vise versa.
Aeryn Sun/Sam Anders. She'd put up with him, he'd drink himself under the table, and he'd feel right at home every time she bitched about not being able to be a prowler pilot anymore.

6. What's your favorite moment for ship 4? (Kitty/Wisdom)
"You take me to the nicest places." followed by "your feet are cold" from the Pryde & Wisdom LS.

7. How long was there between the time you got into the fandom and the time you started shipping ship number 3? (Sam/Cam)
Er. I was in fandom before Cameron appeared. And then they knew each other, so....

8. When did you start shipping ship number 4? (Kitty/Wisdom)
Dream Nails. Probably about the time she threatened to put his cigarette out on him, actually. So, even before Deam Nails. But the bit in the cockpit where she almost says she cares about him always makes me smug.

9. Take three people from three of the ships and create an OT3.
Kara Thrace/Aeryn Sun/Sam Carter. Oh, help. The world wouldn't survive, but it would be hot.

10. Rank your OTPs in order.
They're all kinda tied for second behind Kara/Anders.

Actually, all of them are less interesting as boys.

I agree, but it's a sad irony that if Disney hadn't genderswapped the character roles for Liz and Will, fans would have identified and accepted the pairing far more readily. As it stands, fandom force-fits Liz back into the damsel role by frequently pairing her with either Jack or Barbossa. From my perspective, it's a failure to recognize the gender-swap.

You know the one. The tentative young man reveals himself to be a dashing young prince. Meanwhile, the girl next door demonstrates familial fidelity, steadfast loyalty and is occasionally competent but not too much so. The dashing prince is ultimately perceptive enough to value those qualities more than transient beauty or seductive romance. Natch.

If Liz and Will hadn't been genderswapped, I'd have gone into a coma trying to watch the movie.

I honestly don't know if I would have been all that interested in them if Liz hadn't been Liz.

Me neither. If Liz's character role had been the traditional male it would have been: Badboy male lead and his Goodboy male supporting lead friend romp around having adventures until Goodboy marries GirlNextDoor, who has been dutifully saving her dad from eternal damnation.

We've only seen variations of that story, um, how many times now? Amazing what a simple genderswap of only some of the component gender roles can achieve. Too bad more fans can't see the bloody obvious.
