Fandom: the wank that never stops.

1. Fandom Wank has some awesome classic wank on the first page. Seriously, this? Is a thing of beauty.

2. Dresden Files has apparently not yet been renewed for a second season. This is causing angst and wank on the Skiffy Dresden board. Cries of "Painkiller Jane sucks!" can probably be heard from Japan. Entitlement about being Able to Control Their Television Shows abounds. The wank pretty much reads like the year Farscape got canned... Only that time, it was SG-1 getting called sucky.

3. Painkiller Jane. Torchwood. Bones. Fandom keeps telling me they suck.

4. But then again, fandom thinks boys are bettter than girls, so I'm not sure fandom is all that smart.

Well, that's a shame about the Dresden Files, I hope they get renewed soon. All right, compared to the books they're semi-coherent nonsense, but compared to 80% of British telly right now, they're many flavours of awesome.

Having picked up one of the books they read like Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, but with a guy instead. So, in my opinion, show = miles better than the books.

Personally, I like The Dresden Files and I think it has a lot of potential and would be sorry if it didn't get renewed in favor of Skiffy putting on more wrestling or more high-quality entertainment such as Mansquito, but Painkiller Jane is lovely. I have not seen Torchwood or Bones, so I will decline to comment on their quality.

Well, you'd think they cancelled SG-1 to pay for more wrestling and Mansquito...

Fandom is the opiate of the geek masses.

Yes. Yes it is.

We finally just got Torchwood. Everyone said it was crap. But I thought it was SO OMG AWESOME. Made of pretty and win.

I don't know. I do know I kept watching, waiting to a) hate Gwen and b) find the writing sub-par and bad, and the plots unintelligent.

Somehow, fandom and I WATCHED DIFFERENT SHOWS. I'm thinking maybe they got, like, Survivor or Big Brother, or something.

Indeed. ;)

OMGWTFMORONS. What is it with some people and this zero-sum bullshit?? It's not even in the same frelling slot! There is no earthly reason why PKJ has any effect whatsoever on whether DF will be renewed.

Thank God I've only seen one BT "fan" gratuitously bashing Army Wives. Of course, she was doing it on the blog of BT's exec story editor, as a comment to an entry in which he was praising the network prez to the skies for her SUPPORT. *facepalm*

Then again, I run away whimpering with boredom every time I try to read any discussions on the Bloodlines forum, so the same kind of thing is probably going on there and I'm just missing it. But I choose not to think about that.

YES.

Although, I think the best bit was from someone ranting about how they were still boycotting TNT for cancelling Witchblade with no warning or explanation. Even though now they know that it was cancelled because Yancy was in and out of rehab/etc. Which, y'know, not going around spouting "omg our star is an alkie!" was actually CLASSY on TNT's part.

*snerk* And IIRC, they did release something to the effect of it having to do with her health. So that person is just an all-around champion idiot. Especially since "boycotting" TNT is such a sacrifice, what with their having sod-all to watch. *eyeroll*

But, but, you might miss a Law and Order rerun!

[identity profile] obsidian179.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
I kinda like Law & Order reruns. It's their Charmed reruns that I could live without. The later seasons, anyway. *shudders* Poor, poor continuity, how we mourn thee.

What had upset them about the convention was that it was just a bunch of guys getting together to have some fun, and hang out with SF pros. As Kyle quotes Forry Ackerman as saying:

"I personally was very impressed by the very fair way in which the Nycon was analyzed. 'If the reason for the convention,' said the speaker, 'was for fans to meet the pros, to exchange autographs, to see movies, etc., then we would have to say that the convention was a success. If this first meeting of readers and authors should have produced some discussions, some resolutions, then we would have to say it was not.'

Man, a convention without producing resolutions? That's like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without the elephant feces.

OMG! *dies laughing*

I think I need an icon with the bolded stuff. *snerk*

*snicker* Don't look at me, every time I open photoshop, I make Sam or Kara or Sam icons.

I don't really think it works that way. They should be able to afford both shows, after all. And I hope that the Dresden Files is renewed, as I like it. ^_^

Oh, I'm quite fond of Dresden, and shall be sad if it doesn't get renewed. The thing I find amusing is that I've read PKJ was ordered with a full slate of 22 episodes. Which means that 'renewal' is really just Skiffy's way of saying, "And now for part two of season one"

*snorts*
