SFS: Doctor Who 'Utopia'

There was also 3.7 watched. So.

JACK.

Martha is hot. And she has a tattoo. Am I allowed to have one? I swear I'll treat her nice, and write her porn...

Martha's mother = only slightly less annoying than Jackie. And definitely less annoying than Rose.

Which brings me to Rose. Can't we shut the fuck up about her? It's nice that Jack wanted to know and shit, but, fuck, the woman is GONE. Let her rest in peace like the other 27+ companions. I was happy that the falling into the sun episode had absolutely NO Rose whatsoever. Thank fucking god.

As for Martha, I think I like her. She's useful and very proactive, and doesn't let people walk all over her. Plus, she kisses random boys. Mm. I could do with less of the screaming, though. It's not 19-bloody-63 anymore, you idiots.

It probably doesn't help I'd just read Ellis's Reload which has a chick who takes out the entire American government. And Cable and Deadpool which has Domino.

Although, I will note that Martha saved the Doctor at least once. So. At least they're slightly even.

Could care less about Saxon, as I've always hated Underlying Plot Threads in Who seasons.

Though Jacobi as The Master was nice, the other guy is... well, he's manic to match the Doctor, I guess.

Mostly, I felt very much as though I'd missed nothing not seeing the rest of series three.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised in the sun episode that they were not on Earth. And it's possible they weren't on Earth in Utopia, but that's hard to tell.

Martha's always saving the Doctor's ass. It's rather nice that way. And yes, I absolutely adore her tat.

*licks your icon*

Dude. I was happy that sun-episode gave us lots of bare arms (except the medic). I may be biased towards women with nice, bare shoulders

I love Martha. I didn't really mind the Rose stuff, since they kind of avoided it for the most part. But I hope the Doctor can get over Rose, so he'll see clearly how awesome Martha is.

And Jack is so hot.

She keeps saving his ass. If he can't see how awesome she is now, he needs to be hit on the head a lot. Obviously.

Randomly, since I haven't watched any of S.3 yet at all, but your icon FTW! lol!

Dude, Torchwood may have accidentally raised a demon, but Black Air did it on purpose, with the intention of taking over the world.

Plus, they killed a good thousand in London, iirc.

I remember that! back in the ye olde glory P&W days...

Speaking of, I know you've mentioned it before, but is the Wisdom series worth picking up?

I take it back. Technically, they didn't intend to release the demon. Margali was just going to use its magic... (yes, I did just pull it out to re-read... *geeks*)

...OMG. Yes. Yes it is. Like. A lot. It is very much like Torchwood and yet in some ways not (no heads getting kicked off in TW). And it is awesome in ways that are probably directly related to my lust for the Virgin New Adventures Doctor Who books (and slightly towards my love for Paul Cornell). ALSO. There is Kitty (and the last comic has a bit at the end where, um. Paul is a bad man and a man after my own heart,as well).

Mmm. Kitty/Pete.

I'm glad you have it handy -- I THINK I might be able to find it, but it'd take some doing. (I can't even remember - is that actually the LS or in the regular Excalibur run?)

I'll look into Wisdom then, because ... I miss Kitty/Pete. Those were good times.

Nah, the BA arc was issues 90-102 of Excal. Or thereabouts.

Technically, it is not large on the Kitty/Pete. Sadly. But there are slightly subtley bits that have Pete sort of, maybe, pining for her...

[identity profile] lizardbeth-j.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
heh, all I remember from the LS is them that splash page of Kitty's gloves and stuff on the pilot's chair... (you can tell what I focused on... *g*)

I'm sad, but oh well, that's okay. I'll check it out. I don't have the patience for any of the titles that are part of massive crossover "EVENTS" anymore, so something more self-contained would be nice.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Bwahahah. That was the Dream Nails arc. The LS was them and Jack the Ripper and sharing a hotel room and KNOCKING THE COUCH OVER WHILE MAKING OUT and Pete's sister, Romany, who is AWESOME.

Yeah, me, either. It's made Cable and Deadpool hard, since there's been some stupid crossover with another X-book. MARVEL. STOP MAKING FABIAN MOCK YOU.

[identity profile] lizardbeth-j.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
OMG that's right! Now that you say it, I remember. man, that was a looooong time ago.

heh. but Marvel makes it so easy! Well DC's no better when it comes to that crap - they used to be, but they fell back into the bloated crossover epic HELL too. So I dropped all their books too. And now I get the BSG comic because it's pure AU crack, and that's about it. :(

Though Jacobi as The Master was nice, the other guy is... well, he's manic to match the Doctor, I guess.

He's sort of exactly a match for the Doctor, which is kinda my issue. He's a physical match for the Doctor (and even says he's sorta going for that), and has the same "ooh, new teeth"/"ooh, new voice" moment, and, er, sheesh. Okay, we get that the Master is an evil parallel of the Doctor; it's sort of always been explicit. It's just sort of dull to make him a copy.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the ooh new bits bit was a bit annoying. He's never cared before. Bleh.

[identity profile] redstarrobot.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
It was just a little "er, why?". Er, why does S2 Rose follow the same character arc, down to the same episode themes and beats as S1 Rose? Why is Martha following a similar character arc of increasing neediness as Rose? Why is the Master following the same regeneration character beats as the Doctor? Why has Jack been following the same "lonely immortal" character development as the Doctor? It's like they have two characters, who do one thing over and over, and that's it.

[identity profile] hergrace.livejournal.com 2007-06-18 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
This is interesting. As Scarfman has put it, the DavidDoc stories may be following a "god complex arc". (I'd put the reference here, but I'm terrible at that -- if you're really interested I'll find it and put it up.) Anyway, if that's the case, he is now being faced by his ultimate Lucifer. At least he has Martha to regulate him (something which Rose never did, since she was an enabler.) Actually, I'm hoping to see the return of "Harriet Jones, Ex-Prime Minister" to help whup up on the Master. I could just about see her coming to the Doctor's aid even after he brought down her government.

I am more curious about why they bother to have Jack be an immortal. Those loving Doctor/Jack combinations could see it as a way for the Doctor to spend eternity with *somebody*. ;-)

You are NOT crazy. Jack would tap that.
