Oh Supernatural fandom,

Women are not going to ruin your show. Stop being mysoginistic pricks. Not that most of you objecting actually have dicks. Surprisingly, you have vaginas. Just goes to show that women really are the reason we can't have female characters.

I suppose the good news is that most of the people on this post are like, "uh....you're dumb."

But then again, there's this post.

Spoilers for season three in both links.

Of course, the best bit is someone asserting that Supernatural is the last bastion of male-oriented television. Yup. There are no other shows out there trying to corner the market on the 18-34 male demographic.

Nobody makes me roll my eyes harder than those morons (or more ashamed to share a fandom with them). They did the same thing last year when there were casting sides for some series regular girls that might have been love interests, and you know what happened? Those characters turned out awesome.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but apparently fandom being objectionable is why those two characters are not more recurring/main cast.

[identity profile] endis-ni.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, look, I don't know if I'm being thick or what here, but as far as I can see these people are freaking out because there are going to be female characters as regulars on Supernatural.

And it's just the idea that's freaking them out, they haven't actually seen the episodes with them in. Is this correct?
ext_18106: (Aliensexfiend)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. They're freaking out and writing letters because there are, maybe, going to be women on the show.

Vaginas are a bad thing.

Ha. Dude, that's always been my issue with the SPN fandom. They're just so... guh.

As I've said before, they can't allow women to be on the show because either that means

A) Their self-insert fic won't work anymore
B) It gets in the way of, shudder, Wincest
C) They are a little possessive of Jensen/Jared/Both.

Silly people.

This was me, and I approve this message.

In addition, dude, this show needs more hot women hunters. For serious.

YES IT DOES.

[identity profile] sabaceanbabe.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, my. I wonder if this'll hit Fandom Wank?

I totally agree with timjr on this one. It's just... wow. O_o

THE STUPID. IT BURNS.

I was looking for Supernatural femslash last night. I think Medie and I have written at least half of the stuff that's out there. Well. That doesn't involve turning the brothers into girls and having them sleep with each other. (Not that I've seen it. But in Supernatural fandom? I'm sure it's out there.)

[identity profile] kurukami.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
*shudders* Yes, it's out there.

This does NOT AT ALL surprise me. Pain me, yes, but surprise me, no.

*nods* I'm pretty sure you guys ARE the only ones I've seen SPN femslash from.

Someone wrote a kickass Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossover with Faith/Jo, and I could swear there's at least one more out there that's good. If only I could find the goddamn link.

[identity profile] rhi-silverflame.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
. . .

One more reason for me to stay the hell away from that show.

[identity profile] kurukami.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just the fans that are wanky. ; )

Or were you saying you'd stay away because there were female characters being introduced?

[identity profile] sideofzen.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The addition of female characters makes it more interesting to me. Before I was very much with the not caring. I still kind of am, but who knows. I could get really bored one summer.

[identity profile] kurukami.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
*snerk* If it was really all that male-oriented, there'd be more in the way of regular female characters. That's one of the same failings that Angel had in season 5 -- the predominance of male characters. Guys aren't as interested in watching the "Angel & Spike snark and have questionable chemistry show". We're there for the action, and the plottiness, and the wit, and (admittedly) to ogle the women and be interested in their character arcs.

I like watching Supernatural for the first three reasons. But you can't really get particularly interested by the latest week's passing guest star, regardless of how attractive she might be physically. It's like a succession of cheap, one-night stands -- and I know I wouldn't mind having a female character or two continue to stick around over the course of a season. Jo, whenever she showed up, was a welcome diversion.

[identity profile] foenix.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
...

Bring on the women!

Anything to make this show open to a wider audience, and shake up the dynamics! There's a whole world out there, people, let's have some more characters!

I say people start a campaign to write in and SUPPORT this decision, to counteract the others.

So...

Women = BAD, but incest is A-OKAY! Good to know.

But... but... Girly parts are icky!

Like I told Lyss, you know tSupernatural fandpm has to be crazy, because I can find het fic in an anime series that's about 1,000 times gayer than Supernatural ever could hope to be.

Looks like an improvment to me but then I don't watch Supernatural because I got bored.
I'm not interested in monster of the week stuff and it lacked (interesting) women characters ;P.

*nods* I've seen one episode, because it had Tricia Helfer in it. she was the only good thing.

ITA with everyone else above, but also:

Of course, the best bit is someone asserting that Supernatural is the last bastion of male-oriented television.

I guess that person completely missed that the show is actually advertised to WOMEN. It's chock full of those hideous "not so fresh" ads, not cars and beer and AXE. Advertisers know who watches, and it's not a majority of guys.

And of course the Mary Sue thing came up again, because heaven forbid the producers might want to cast a hot chick on a tv show.

At least most of the comments were smack-downs, that made me feel better.

AHAHAHAHAH. That is funny as hell, actually.

[identity profile] drake57.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
You know i never watched the show, so they're all upset because they might add women to the now all-male cast show?

Might make me watch an episode with a female on it :)

The only reason I've seen an episode was because it had a woman in it--Tricia Helfer...
