quick movie reviews

Bridge to Terabithia (or however it's spelled): The commercials are more interesting. Longer thoughts in the morning. It's My Girl with 'imagination' (not that they call it that, 'cause, I suppose they're afraid Anne of Green Gables will sue them for copyright violation). *yawn*

The Last Sentinel: ....wow. Apparently, Katee Sackhoff is only a brilliant actress as Kara Thrace. Otherwise, she's pretty flat and one-dimensional. Though, maybe I shouldn't blame her since the movie had less plot than your average 8-bit game of Pong.

The commercials lie. They spend very little time there, and it's mostly about Jess.

I've only seen Katee Sackhoff in one thing that wasn't BSG, The Educaiton of Max Bickford, and she was absolutely lovely in the role. So I'm more inclined to believe it was the badness of the movie.

Good. And, really, this film was... omg, Kossie, it was BAD. Really really bad.

Your description? Doesnt even scratch the surface of the badness. I fell asleep watching it. I can sleep when shes on tv?? This I didnt think was possible.

You missed nothing! She's in maybe twenty minutes, if that, and she.... doesn't do much except act like a damsel in distress.

[identity profile] mrushgdi.livejournal.com 2007-05-13 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yuck. NO more damsels in distress! There are too many of them already. Now I'm kinda glad I did sleep through it.

The sad thing is, it starts out with her shooting things and then... suddenly, she needs training and to be saved a lot.

THAT i saw. I fell asleep right after she blew everything up and took a dive in the water. Unfortunately, I did see her kissing the old guy. Lucky old guy, poor Katee.

I probably would have fallen asleep too if it wasn't recording and I paused it and left when she didn't have scenes.

I fast forwaded large portions. I don't feel I missed much. (when the first twenty minutes is nothing but badly-shot boys shooting things...)

See, when I saw My Girl, I was all, "Dude, they basically just filmed Bridge to Terabithia!" Which, you know, it worked and all, but it was essentially Bridge to Terabithia without Terabithia. I read Bridge as a wee young thing, you see, and sobbed my heart out over it.

And see, my theory is that no one can act in a Sci Fi Channel Original Picture. Because I saw Kristanna Loken in Bloodrayne, and she sucked, but she's surprisingly good comparatively in the couple eps of Painkiller Jane I've seen. And Amber Benson wasn't that great in her Skiffy pic either, and I know she's good. So I wouldn't put much blame on Katee at all, because I think they actually somehow, for some Gods-unknown reason, try to keep people from being able to act in their films. Possibly because the Skiffy PTB types are all insane. (IMO, of course, but that's my theory.)

Ahhh. Well, the movie is pretty much accurate to the book, I expect.

I'm not sure Last Sentinel is a Skiffy picture, but it doesn't matter. I just hope Katee got good money from it.

Sci Fi Channel movies are required by Skiffy law to be outright horrible, no matter how good the actors and actresses are that they've tapped for the roles.

Seriously. I think it's in their contracts somewhere that if they're a member or former member of a Skiffy show, they're required to do some evil penance by degrading their resumes with one of those movies. My theory is they're just creating tons of material so they can bring back MST3K.

See, I don't think it's a Skiffy-produced movie, they're just doing the broadcasting. And Peacekeeper War was a Skiffy-produced movie, so it isn't always true.

Lemme put it this way: Manos had a better plot.

The big question about Katee's movie, though... was it better or worse than Mansquito? ;)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2007-05-13 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
No. Mansquito actually had something happening during it.
