ficlet: Lantis, Weir/Sheppard.

I blame, as always, [livejournal.com profile] familyarchives

With Earth gone, the war got harder. Not that the war had reached Atlantis, yet. But John Sheppard was trying to be prepared.

"C'mon, it's a perfectly valid idea."

Elizabeth Weir raised one sculpted eyebrow, "I'm not certain I see how, Colonel. Maybe you could explain it to me."

"Well, it's simple 'general' has more connotations of being in charge than 'colonel'." He raised his eyebrows, giving her an innocent look, "And you do think we should present a united, and very in-charge front to the people we meet from here on-out in the Pegasus galaxy, don't you?"

"Oh, I do," she replied, something like laughter glinting in her eyes. "But I don't think they'll care one way or another whether you're a general or a colonel. Those are, after all, Earth concepts."

"Well, most of the people here are from Earth, in a way. Twice removed."

"John."

"There's precedent, Elizabeth. And you know it. Battlefield promotions, for the good of morale, that sort of thing."

He might have been right, in some ways, but that still didn't mean she agreed. "I'm sorry, John. I'm not promoting you to general, just because it sounds better than colonel."

"Nuts."

Her lips twitched, but she didn't let her smile get any larger, "Now, if you're done, I have paperwork to finish--and so do you, come to think of it."

"Colonels don't do paperwork," he informed her.

"They have before, and they will continue--unless they want to find themselves demoted to Captain."

"Maybe captain has a nice ring to it."

"I'll just ask Major Lorne in, shall I?"

He glared, but there was amusement in it. "Fine. I'll go do my paperwork."

"Good." She smiled sweetly at him, "Have a nice day, Colonel."

He left her office, muttering about how letting civilians be in charge of anything was a bad idea. He stuck his head back in to add, "We still on for lunch?"

"If you get your paperwork done."

He waved a hand and skipped off, whistling. Elizabeth shook her head and settled down to do her paperwork, half-grinning.

*snickers* Poor boy really does want to prove everyone wrong and go the distance, huh?

"But I wanna be a General!"
"No."
"But-"
"No."
"Liiiz.."
"Don't make me bust you down to private."
"That's the Army."
"Yeah. I know."
"...I'll go do my reports now."

He also has this whole argument about how it's a morale-booster.

Very sweet. The courting rituals of the remaining humans, or somthing similar. This was excellently written. I could actually hear/see the exchange in my head and everything was spot on.

I must admit to be a bit out of the loop on SGA, has anything ever happened on camera between these two or is it more of a Jack/Sam type of setup?
