I tend to think Sam kind of... idealized her, but with limits. And even when they weren't speaking, she was pretty much his whole world. But then, I'm not sure Sam wants connections with other people, not the lasting kind, anyway.

Chemistry is in the eye of the beholder. I, for instance, think Sam and Chief have more chemistry than Kara and Lee. But that's because Trucco really does bring the boyslash.
I'm fairly certain Sam spent a good 60% of that four months on New Caprica drunk, or unconscious at the Tyrols'. Tory only called him 'Anders' back then, so I doubt they knew each other well. And, honestly, at that point? I'm pretty sure Sam was hell-bent on kicking the Cylons' asses so he could get his wife back. Not on getting solace.
