It's come to my attention that more than one or two people on my flist is actually rather a large fan of... Nancy Drew/Frank Hardy.

Obviously, this requires something like a fic challenge. Or even just more discussion of said fact.

Y'know. With angsty memories of being trapped in a cabin and kissing.

Nancy Drew! I loved Nancy Drew. She's like the ultimate Mary Sue because she's good at everything and she can learn anything, too. She can ride horses and do stunts on them, while also working at a dude ranch and having a perfect boyfriend and not being the "plump" friend or the "sporty" friend...and having a great relationship with her father, and generally being all around amazing while also solving mysteries and hiding in bizarre places.

See, and I always found Ned to be obnoxious and uninteresting. And he was always whining about her getting into danger. And was not very supportive.

Yeah, I don't remember much about Ned but there was that one book where the girls were at Shadow Ranch or something and trying to figure out who was sabotaging the place and there's a ranch hand who's totally into Nancy and she's all conflicted.

And then they all went to Africa that one time.

Nancy Drew for President! Is there anything she can't do? Except fight, of course. She never kicked anyone's ass. She was too "ladylike" I guess.

Just paying the library fine is a good plan, really. But, yes, if I'm going to write Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys fic, I need to actually reread some of the books. (God, I'm a sucker for a good fic challenge.)

Yeah, well, I sold off all of mine at a garage sale when I was about 11--Cherry Ames, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Bobbsey Twins, Vicki Vale (omg mystery solving airline stewardess!), Dana Girls, Trixie Belden, and all the other assorted mystery solving teen type books.

I, ah, called Mom and am having her buy copies for me when she sees them around places used. *sheepish*

I just went through all of my books and I don't have The Last Resort I have 21 of the super mysteries, but I appear not to have a copy of the most important one of all!

My local library doesn't have it, so I'm checking used book dealers online now.

I still remember the story set at a Renaissance faire. I think I kept that one because of it. I got rid of most of my Nancy Drews and related books, although I kept my Susan Sand, dammit. She might be a ripoff, but she was a good one.

One of the book-of-the-month clubs is reissuing the first 4 Cherry Ames books in nice HC editions for a pretty decent price.
