Er... Someone explain this "Nine needs/needed Rose" stuff I keep seeing? 'Cause, I've seen all but two eps of season one, and I really didn't see him needing her. There's quite a bit of "Protecting the human companion" going on, but that's par for the course for the Doctor And the TARDIS loved Grace and Chang Lee better, yo

He was only lonley, i don't think he 'needed' her. He could have had anyone with him and people would say 'he needed ___!' If Jack was first, there would be more Jack/Doctor shippers.

I didn't really see it, either. He seemed entirely comfortable behaving the exact same way with half a dozen other people of various guest capacities, and he didn't honestly behave all that differently than he does with every single companion he's evr had.

He totally did Jabe. He showed her teh l0nely first! [/Doctor-Jabe-shipper]

I think he needed her in the same way that I need cheese. Sure, I can live without cheese, but fuck if I don't crave it quite a bit.

Yeah, it's just... he needed someone and she's the one he imprinted on.

But we're meant to pretend, yeah?

[identity profile] nostalgia-lj.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a think Rusty tells us and we pretend to believe. In that we agree he needed someone and she was... there.

Doctor/Jabe is win!

exactly.

Okay. If we go with "The Doctor has always needed a companion" that works. (and he totally had a companion during Deadly Assassin, the Matrix Archivist was just a temp companion, though)

AHA. Ok. That works for me. Otherwise, er... I apparently watch a different show than the shippers.

*clings* And, see, that's what I saw. Which is, again, the same way he generally was with previous companions (Ace and cleaning crap off her nose is the first exception that leaps to mind).

Yeah, but there's lots of cheese. She isn't special, and neither is Captain Jack or any of the other cheese in the episodes. It's all just kind of there.

yes, and i watched that same one with you.

EVERYONE is special. Hell, I like Rose. Do I like Ace better? Sure! But I find Rose interesting. *shrug* Captain Jack I can take or leave.

And if you want to apply that logic... I totally crave cheddar some days and some days just can't look at it. There's no accounting for random cravings. *shrug*

Doctor/Jabe for the mutually-long-lived ship!

[identity profile] redstarrobot.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, pretty much. Heck, I think the way he touched Ace was more intimate than the way he touches Rose. He's, like, always touching her face. It's just who he is. He's also perfectly happy wearing his heart on his sleeve for Jabe and being Lynda-with-a-y's mysterious knight on a white horse. It's not Rose, she's just there. She got to be Lynda-with-a-y in the department store, that's all. Anti-plastic-dropping, risking your life to report on Dalek movements, the Doctor doesn't care, they'd both have done just fine.

It comes from the way he badgered her to board the TARDIS at the end of Rose, but that's compatible with "The Doctor has always needed a companion". Yeah, she was SPESHUL, Doomsday teaches us that; but School Reunion teaches us they're all special. That's why they're the ones he asks along (or pretends not to be able to get home).

I have a dim suspicion that you have a bias in this.

I went into "Doomsday" mortified. I was *so* sure Artoo-D was gonna pulla Whedon on us and *execute* Rose and a couple of others besides. I was so relieved he didn't that I had a tough time seeing how the parting of Ten & Rose was so heavy... 'til I peeked back at "New Earth." *sniff*
