Randomly...

Was Save Farscape more successful than the obnoxious bleatings of the FireflyWhedonisGodites?

Hrm. I suppose the acid test is that Best Buy packages Serenity with Chronicles of Riddick, hoping the Vin Diesel fans will get the extra copies off their hands...

I'm still holding out hope for another Farscape movie, theater release and all.

I think the Firefly people aimed too high. Despite their wishes, their audience really wasn't that big - they were loud, but not numerous.

The Farscape crew knew their audience and delivered to them, and it worked.

So it's not just me that gets annoyed by the Joss!IS!God! people?

I loved Firefly. I went to a pre-screening of Serenity and even stayed up all night to get tickets because I am weird like that. Saw Nathan and Jewel at Dragon Con two years ago.

But the fans... they are just so loud. You know, I don't even own Serenity on DVD. I think the Joss D*C debacle last year just turned me off.

Then again, I never liked Buffy or Angel so...

Nope.

Y'know, I liked Buffy and bits of Angel, and I enjoyed Firefly. I'm not fanatical about it (not to mention that he really does write the same thing over and over and over again), but I liked them.

It still wasn't enough to make me want to see Serenity.

And the fans, they SCARE me. I mean, I've known people who run round in full Klingon garb all day in a shopping mall. And the Whedonites are scarier. (and full Klingon garb is frakking HOT)

Ooh. See, I'd be ok with that, but I really still just want a fifth season. sigh.

Yes. And, honestly, it didn't help that they were so exceedingly obnoxious and loud about it.

Even if we didn't get the entire season, at least we know what it would have been like.

Hmm, it was packaged with the Doom movie here. weird.

[identity profile] lilbreck.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
If they had a fifth season, I'd even agree to go around in full Chiana make-up and costume... maybe.

I'd at least get some leather pants and maybe a prop Winona [sp?]. I just want to see the crew again, dammit. And I wanna know what's up with Grayza's pregnancy.

istr this isn't the first instance i've seen of studios pairing up flix to move, er, "recalcitrant" product. Suppose sometimes it -does- get a film into people who needed to see it but didn't know.

Both shows are rich and rockin' but Firefly doesn't go into the characters' heads like they do in Farscape. And acid test 2 - I accidentally called my printer b*tchtralk the other day.

To be fair, I don't think Firefly had a long enough run to really even try. Farscape didn't start to really take off as far that goes until around A Human Reaction. And from that point on, there was no turning back.

But yeah. I use frell and tralk and dren like that all the time, but I hardly ever use shiny and pretty much never use Chinese. ;)

I don't have a copy of Serenity yet, but I probably will have by Christmas, and I *do* have the series DVDs. Even so, I know what you mean. I had all of Farscape on tape and then bought all the DVDs. I donated dozens of copies of the DVDs to the troops in Iraq when we were seriously campaigning to save the show, but I never felt that passionately about any of the Whedonverse shows, even though I enjoy them.

BWAHAHAHAH.

Joss is like JMS -- talented, but less talented than he thinks he is. Which leads to a mix of hubris and moments of failure that can be a bit annoying.

In the case of Joss, I think his facility for snappy dialogue papers over serious weaknesses in characterization and especially worldbuilding.

[identity profile] frobisher.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting. I think JMS is the opposite: Great worldbuilding, not so great writing.

Hey! Maybe we can have them do something together! Buffalon 5 - I see a great need... :-)

I use 'shiny' all the time.

...but then, I started with that *long* before Firefly was a gleam in Joss' eye.
