I had this epiphany, on my way to work this morning.
I am the Kara/Anders Jaka.
No, seriously. For a bit there, I was scarily convinced that I was. Being a vocal and obnoxious proponent for one pairing tends to be, well, fanatical. But I'm not misogynistic or anti-men, either.
I eventually figured that I'm at least a bit obsessive and obnoxious.
To be Jaka, I'd have to:
1. Think Lee is a stalker. Kara and Dee already hold that handle, the both of them. And not over Anders (does this mean Dee bought Lee a house?).
2. Think Lee is an abusive asshole, who is in SOME WAY related to a friend's abusive ex with the SAME NAME and know that HE WILL NEVER CHANGE.
3. Want Lee dead.
4. Believe that Kara should be punished for trying to sleep with Lee in her attempt to forget Anders. Preferably with torture and rape.
5. Believe that Anders can rape Kara, and it's love. Not to mention deserved.
6. Think that Kara simply wants to settle down and have lots of babies. But only with Anders. And only if she marries him and takes his last name.
7. Think that Kara should give up her career and become a stay-at-home mom. While Anders... does whatever the hell he does.
8. Be of the firm belief that Lee is a stalker and evil, psycho, and has beaten Kara.
9. Use fanon of Zak beating Kara to a pulp to prove that she isn't smart enough to choose the Right Guy for her.
10. That same fanon also proves that beating defenseless women runs in the family (after all, Adama was going to beat her in Act of Contrition, donchaknow).
11. Be certain that Lee is just a stepping-stone to Kara's happiness with Anders. Although, really, she was cheating on Anders just to even consider sleeping with Lee.
12. Hate Lee. (yes, it bears repeating, as Jaka never lets us forget)
13.Constantly talk about Kara's breasts (oh, wait, I do that). Decide whether Kara's breasts are bigger before or after breast-feeding.
14. Demand period fic, wherein Anders understands the Womanhood of Women and how Much Kara goes through so she can bear him Children.
15. Not to mention that Kara's womb should only be Anders' property.
And that's just the tip of the crap he spouts.
So, no. I'm not the Kara/Anders Jaka. I'm just an extremely obnoxious 'shipper. (Hey, canon is NEVER EVER giving me Kara/Sam Carter. I have to 'ship something for the smut on my screen, and Baltar is too oily.)
I have left Teh List again. No surprise (but, good for me for doing as I said I would).
I'd say something like, "I bet you're tired of getting this sort of message", but I doubt many have bothered to complain.
I left the Sam/Jack list a while back (I'm fuzzy on whether it was this year or last year). For the most part it was simply that I wasn't writing or reading them as much. But there was also the fact that, despite his numerous offensive comments, Jaka was not only still on the list, but occasionally defended (when the mod request to halt the discussion comes right AFTER people have again pointed out he's wrong/being an idiot, yeah, that looks like a defense--not to mention that he immediately brown-noses with something to the effect of "Oh, well, I tried to stop them, but they just wouldn't listen. I'm such a good little boy.").
Yes, I was lax about lodging complaints about him. Mostly because I figured it was a waste of time (I've been told before, "If you don't like it, don't read it") and effort.
Now, though, I'm still rather mind-boggled.
I joined the list again after hearing there was another misogynistic fracas involving Jaka going on. I poked him.
Let me state that again. I joined with the deliberate intention to discover whether he was as offensive as before. And, to my utter lack of surprise, he was.
His response? So full of vitriol and hatred for fictional characters that, well, really. One wonders why this guy isn't locked up in an asylum. Or modded so that no one has to read the things he says.
That this offensive person is still allowed to spout his rhetoric is, as I said, mind-boggling.
For a casual observer, one would assume the Sam/Jack list thinks: Pete is an evil, abusing, stalker who raped Sam (who deserved it for cheating on Jack), who should die. Jack, of course, is the shining hero (who gets to rape Sam 'cause he loves her, y'know. Plus, she deserves it). And Sam is the meek little woman who doesn't know her own mind and must be coerced/beaten/abused and saved before she understands her true destiny is to be tied to one man and bear him baby after baby. (and the sad thing is how many people on list seem to agree with him, or at least have learned not to bother disagreeing)
Were this my list he'd have been banned so long ago no one would know who he is.
But it's not my list.
And while I still enjoy Sam and Jack, there's no point in me remaining to see Jaka post regularly.

Well, I'm banned from the Lee/Kara list for making one snarky remark about the endless fic of fruity beverage. But the dynamics that I saw over there are pretty much the reverse of what you wrote up in your list (i.e. they hold true to the idea that Anders is a crazy stalker, an abusive asshole, etc., etc., etc.)

That frightens me. I want to shake them and demand to know why people can't just be normal people. Argh.
And I know, I know there are sane Kara/Lee shippers. They're just far more quiet about it than the ones who aren't. (Just like the sane Sam/Jack shippers are far less noticeable than the scary ones calling for Amanda Tapping's head on a platter for saying she doesn't want to be known as "Jack's Girl") -- Yes. There's a lot of parallels between shipping communities. I could meta about this all day long. sigh. *goes back to work*
