It's a shame, though, that I can't share my best writing with my family because A) it's porn and my family aren't very progressive, or B) because it's got horrific violence in it and they wouldn't understand that, or C) It's Dr. Who or Diablo II-related and they wouldn't get it.

I like to think if my mother had lived, I wouldn't have kept my writing from her. If you can't count on your parents accepting who you are, who can you count on...?

It depends on the parent. My mother, for example, is a painter and an art historian, so she has no problems at all with nudity or implied or even representaional violence in visual art, but she has issues with written erotica, (Erotica, not even porn) and graphic written descriptions of violence. So, she gets to see my artwork, because she understands and appreciates that, but not my writing, because she wouldn't, and she'd likely think she'd spawned a seriously disturbed individual. (Which is open to debate, but I digress. :-) )

It goes both ways, you have to accept who they are too.

I've stopped using my name on fic, and the lj is definitely not linked anywhere thy can find it (and I don't think they know my name here)

And, yeah, they've seen some of my stuff. But not the porn. And god forbid they read any of the slash.
