OMG AEON FLUX

It was so good!

WHY is no one talking about this movie? It has everything, kick-ass women, strange science, funky sets, sex, drugs...

Very well-done movie.

It did what I love best about SF movies: it expected you to follow along and didn't talk down to you. If you didn't catch things? You were screwed.

*dances*

Of course, now I want to ponder ways to write a B5/Aeon crossover. Mmm.

Sex, drugs, and more women in speaking roles than men.

I'm talking about this movie! Just... not on lj. :P Seriously though, I'm glad you liked it as I'm thinking of seeing it myself. No one wants to see it with me though as my friends seem to assume it's crap. :( I love post-apocalyptic movies and assassins? So cool. So it should be right up my alley...

I want to see this movie! But have not had time :-(

[identity profile] vampirehunter85.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
I kept meaning to go see this movie.

Sadly never actually got around to it. I'll have to look into it.

Personally, nothing in the trailers or promotional stuff I've seen has actually made the film look any good. (Although Charlize Theron...mmm) But you're the second person on my flist to give it a positive review, so I may well look into it.

Argh. I hate that people seem to assume it's crap. I mean, I suppose the original cartoon was somewhat of an acquired taste, but, sheesh. Visually, it's very stunning and very different to look at. They don't always go for the easy shot, the simple take... er, anyway. Yes. Go see it.

Yay! (I could just be biased, of course)

Good!

There wasn't? Huh. Personally, I found at least one of the trailers made me bounce with glee. But then Timey did subject me to the cartoon, and, thus, I liked the idea of a movie.

[identity profile] gordon-r-d.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the cartoon, still have my old VHS tape, have ordered the DVD from the US. I saw two trailers for the mkovie over here and they both just seemed rather meh, it struck me as something I'd wait and rent out on DVD maybe, rather than make any effort to see it.

In fact from trailers, the videogame looked far more exciting than the movie.

Well, I think a lot of people are going by this. (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/aeon_flux/) Actually, so was I, even though I know chick-flicks tend to get an undeserved bum rap.

Chick flicks now have violence, drugs, funky-ass science fiction, fights, violence, women ruling the rebellions, women basically doing all the fucking work, and more violence?

Huh.

Guess I should start watching Lifetime.

It really was a fantastic job. They didn't sacrifice the spirit of the show to make a movie out of it at all. Oh, and I think everything in the trailer is in the first five minutes, for the most part. It really isn't the best representation.

Standard movie reviewers are going to hate it because it doesn't use a formula. Also, it's not full of shiny CGI, which is all anyone gives a crap about anymore.

[identity profile] threnody.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not inclined to see a movie of a cracked-out cartoon, especially since it seems to have no special point and not look all that entertaining, from the trailers and whatnot. And people who've never heard of it or forgotten it existed likely won't, either. *shrug*

[identity profile] lavidaessueno.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I *loved* the original cartoons, and I've been going back and forth over the movie because I just can't see how they could pull it off. But a couple of people have recommended it, so it's on my list.

[identity profile] theta-g.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That's two positive reviews! I am so there.

[identity profile] sideofzen.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll definitely be going some time this week, if not tomorrow.

Oh yeah! I saw it opening weekend and it did indeed rock. I loved the tv show too, but then I'm a big fan of cracked-out things.

A B5/Aeon crossover sounds awesome. Although I'm pretty much a whore for almost anything B5, especially if it's well-written. ;)

I'm going to have to make an eyeroll icon, or something. Since we were discussing sci-fi chick flicks, I figured you knew I meant that specific category of chick flicks, which are different from the standard smarmy romance with no consequence chick flicks. Most sci-fic CF flop horribly, for some reason. Well, I say some reason when I mean the producers focus too much on T&A and not enough on treating the main character like someone who ought to have sincere motivations and a definitive goal. I've never watched Lifetime.

sorry. I was (and am) running on 3 hours' sleep or so and in pain. Mea culpa.
