fangirl ramblings: Jo McDonagh

In trying to write something vaguely resembling an essay about why I love Kara Thrace, I'm continually reminded of Jo. Because Jo is Kara's predecessor, the no-nonsense chick who likes guns and kicking people and being physically active. Jo, of course, has a rather stronger sense of law and order (and justice), but she's just as much of a maverick as Kara is (witness Roper's quickly adopting his tactic of following her everywhere to keep her out of trouble), and quite possibly gets into more trouble.

Jo is blonde, with hair long enough to pull back into messy ponytails. Given Kara's hair seems to grow in leaps and bounds, she'll soon need to yank it back, or have it in her eyes (er, as someone whose hair gets in her eyes, this is DAMNED ANNOYING, and I wish more people would realize this).

She also has a Tragic Past, and accidentally got her boyfriend killed, for which Roper blames her.

Roper, btw, is a maverick, I'd say he's more Helo than Lee.

Kenny Burns, otoh, is Lee and Adama rolled into one whilst whatsisface is Tigh and Adama.

Forney = Baltar (and Forney totally needs his own mental blonde... because she would mock him a lot, and it would be really damned amusing)

I'm being distracted by archetypes, and I was talking about Jo and Kara, and how they both throw the first punch and don't take shit from anyone. And, just, they're NOT passive. Mmm.

So, yah. Jo is totally Kara's great-great something or other.

There needs to be more Red Cap fic, damnit! If only to make up for the fact that we didn't get that many episodes.

And yeah, I forgot. Jo kicks ass. I wish I could grow up to be like her. She beat up a fucking para. I love Jo. We need more Jo icons and fic.

One thing that can be said for us is that we're really consistent in our viewing preferences, eh? There really are clear parallels, no stretching involved. And then there are some you can stretch for - Cally = Angie Ogden, Frost = Ellen Tigh? *grin*

I was kind of thinking there was a resemblence! Billy kind of has that Vicary wide-eyed look too.
