Lyssie's Movie Review Hour: SLC Punk!

Little Red has been prodding me to see SLC Punk! since she first dubbed me ALC Punk! and I've been lax in looking for it, but it finally occured to me when someone commenting on my icons asked if that's where I'd gotten the nick. So I hit up the library and lo and behold, they had a copy. I put it on reserve.

Unfortunately, the day I was planning to watch it, Shai's dad arrived and that idea went out the window. And then we marathoned the entire first season of House, I marathoned the Starbuck parts up through You Can't Go Home Again, and there were cartoons... And I got tv'd out. Then we had a guest in the house that wasn't Shai's dad, and watched even MORE tv. And I was even more anti-tv.

So the movie is actually one day overdue (tomorrow). And I've finally watched it.

I think I remember mocking Matthew Lillard in front of LR, and she told me I was wrong. And she's right. He's a decent actor. I was sold on Stevo. I was sold on Bob...

To be frank, (but not Frank because my family is still alive) I was sold on this movie.

I have this softspot for politically-conscious anarchistic chaos-inspired films. This one had that in spades. It's like watching Clerks and Mallrats meets Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas with a little extra violence. These kids? Are the ones you told your parents you avoided, but secretly wanted to be like.

Well, ok, so maybe that's only me.

I was poking at imdb afterwards (as I do, sometimes) and someone there was saying that it was too chaotic. And I think they're wrong. It needed the chaos and pointless violence, and the slide show--OMG THE SLIDE SHOW killed me.

Lyssie would never make a good film theorist, as she is frequently overcome with "I liked it!" instead of explanations.

The cyclic nature of life--you rebel, but then you conform because it's that or die young. And then your kids rebel, but you know they'll end up conforming in the end. And let's not even talk about the cyclic nature of chaos (which is war which is the establishment, and thus if you're chaotic, you're keeping the establishment going).

Er. Yes. I liked it.
