Why is Lyssie a Pinko Commie Liberal?
There's probably a long answer out there. Something about my status, experiences growing up, etc...
But the short answer is simple.
Lyssie grew up reading Bloom County.
Yes, folks, plain and simple, Berkely Breathed shaped Lyssie's political idealogies, making her the cynical person she is today.
Amusingly enough, Bloom County can be applied to the politics of today. Despite being 20 years out of date.
(Opus is working as a sanitation worker. Garbage man. Whatever.)
Opus: Sometimes, I get terribly depressed about my new job. I think of all those other folks out there stuck in positions of no influence and lowly status. I think how easy it would be to become a grumpy ol' poop over such a situation. Then I think of smilin' George Bush!
Milo: Stop that!

The Columbus Dispatch started running the new strip shortly after I moved to Chicago. I got to read it on visits back to get the house ready to sell, and I totally understand why BB insists on the bigger space.

Hmmmm. We've been debating whether to start getting the Sunday Trib or something. (We only got the Sunday paper in Columbus, and that mostly for the TV guide and because the audition listings were in the arts section that day. Here I get an actual trade paper, and our cable guide has full listings.) Maybe that should be the deciding factor...

Also, a friend's band has a song about the fact that, in the final analysis, both major political parties are bascially slaves to corporate interests which means there's less difference between them than might be ideal. It contains the line "If they see you catching on/They'll invent some new Iraqis". I keep meaning to ask him how he feels about the fact that they decided to use the same Iraqis. :-|

Sigh. He's still damned funny.
