Teyla vs. Leela: Cage Match

Teyla vs. Leela: Cage Match. (SG: Atlantis vs. Doctor Who)

Ability to wear skimpy clothing: Both retain this (apparently) necessary component of being a Warrior Woman. Leela more often than Teyla, as Leela has only worn pants once. And long skirts twice. Teyla's workout clothes, however, would give Jool a run for their brevity. And yet, Leela's everyday-wear second costume is shorter, smaller, and, well, is worn all of the time.

Leela wins this round, even without the breast support that Teyla enjoys.

Ability to be written inconsistently. Teyla is trying for the gold in this category. At times she's been a leader, a wise-woman, a stateswoman, a warrior woman, a goofy shopping woman, a mother, an elder sister, a little sister, and a silent observer woman. Leela, on the other hand, has merely had to deal with sometimes being exceedingly intelligent, and sometimes being worse than a savage.

Teyla noses ahead, but just barely, as Leela's inconsistencies were due to a lot of pressure to keep Dad Watching. Whereas Teyla's are because she's obviously not a priority, and therefore ends up as a cipher more often than not.

Ability to pick up any weapon and use it. Leela wins this one. Every weapon she's come across, her instincts and innate hunter's knowledge have made her invaluable as a fighter. Teyla hasn't had as much chance to demonstrate her skill at this.

Makeup. Teyla wins this category, as the 70's weren't kind to Leela's normal day look. Although she had a nice job when she was dressed as a Victorian lady.

Agressiveness. Leela gets it. Willing to kick, kill, or maim her way out of any situation, Leela relies on her instincts and knife to save her life. Teyla tries for diplomacy and, well, talking.

As an adjunct, Leela also wins the bloodthirsty category. She has no qualms about killing people. Teyla isn't a killer.

Diplomacy. Teyla wins this one, as Leela would rather negotiate with her knife at your throat.

Love lives. Here's where it gets painful, for Leela. She has one lover in her first episode, and then nothing for a very long time, until she falls for a dorky, wimpy Gallifreyan. Yeah. Woman brought low by his smarts. Or something. Teyla is a little more complicated. We're not sure she's ever had a lover, although her interaction with Halling is close enough to old lovers to count. And she appeared to have a crush on Sheppard for a while, but at the moment, I think she sees him as an annoying younger brother.

In the long run, Teyla wins, as she's still unattached.

Surviving out of her element. Leela travels for a long time with the Doctor, but never really does much to survive past using her instincts and knife. Teyla moves to Atlantis and... is pretty much Earth-girl now. If we go for the one who's fit in better, Teyla wins. If we go for the girl who hasn't compromised her original life, Leela wins (until falling for the twit).

Longevity. Really not fair to Leela, since Doctor Who is long over, and she was a companion for only two years. Teyla, otoh, could stay around for eight seasons.

Fan reaction. Leela is more universally-liked. Teyla is hated by many fans as being boring. (as, in a side note, is Dr. Weir, if you're not a Sparky fan).

On a totally different thought, someone needs to write me Teyla/Leela fic. They can have sex and be all lesbian.

And I'm completely out of things to compare them on. *checks score*

Erm. They each took five. So, they tie. Yay for them.

Teyla's workout uniform, which does, in fact, cover as much skin (if not more) than a sports bra and bike shorts:

Sevateem are superior.

Leela wins because, hey, she traveled with THE DOCTOR. In the Tardis--which is waaay more fun than the puddle jumpers.

*sigh* Shipper wars irritate me. Makes me just want to write Teyla/Lizzie slash and have them laugh at anyone thinking they could be attracted to John.

Lyssie?

Their hypocracy scares me. They're now busy explaining why it's okay for Lizzie to have perfect hair and all those clothes. . .

And yet, Teyla is still stupid for it. *stabs self with pen*

*giggles*

See, now we should totally start the Lizzie/Teyla list... *ravish*

Isn't Teyla a lot younger than Shep?

Leela, on the other hand, has merely had to deal with sometimes being exceedingly intelligent, and sometimes being worse than a savage.

I'm not sure why these two are inconsistent. Also, FWIW, Leela does have that one out of character moment in Robots where she basically responds with "you have got to be kidding me" when a knife is, for once, ineffective. :-)

As far as her falling for The Dork of Gallifrey, I merely point out that Louise Jameson had a explanation for that: "It was in my contract".

And now that I think of it, I bet Louise is way cooler than who ever plays this Teyla person.

I haven't watched Dr. Who since I was like 8, so I thought you meant Leela from Futurama. Funny, funny images.

Dude, you think she stayed for Andred? What about Rodan (?) from the Gallifrey Air Traffic Control? THAT'S who she stayed for.

Also, she wins. Omg.

I honestly have no idea. Half the time she acts about fifty, half the time she seems about eighteen. And she WAS her people's leader, so... *shrug*

I find Leela inconsistant any time she's written as a crying, screaming little terrified woman who has to be saved.

Thank you. I meant to put RomanaRodan in there, but I forgot.

Did that really happen that much? I may have been distracted. :-)
