An extremely vocal activist who has a TV show. One example of an item on this show is where he took a bunch of people who'd lost their vocal chords due to smoking and had to take through one of those robotic voice boxes, took them to the head office of various cigarette companies, and had them sing Christmas carols.
Sometimes he says and/or does things I don't agree with, but I admire his guts.
Also, there was an unrelated Mike Moore who was prime minister of New Zealand.
Bowling for Columbine, Roger and Me... He's the chubby guy from Michigan, who followed the GM exec around, badgering him about the auto industry in the 80s. He's also the guy who won an Oscar last night, and stood in front of the crowd and pointed out that this war was NOT wanted by all. And etc.
Also responsible for: TV shows: 'TV Nation' and 'The Awful Truth' Movies: 'The Big One' (Documentary) and 'Canadian Bacon' (Fiction comedy) Books: 'Adventures in a TV Nation' 'Stupid White Men' and 'Downsize This!' Music Videos: REM and Rage Against the Machine
I don't always agree with him, but he is a personal hero. If he can accomplish things with a camera, so can I.
No need to get defensive. I've never said whether I'm for or against this war; that's because in a lot of ways I am very conflicted about it. I'm not sure how I feel. Although I know one thing- I am QUITE sure I'm sick of hearing anti-France bullshit and such vitriolic backlash against those who do speak out against it. Lately, expressing an opinion which just happens to be against the current regime and its decisions regarding Iraq seems to be taken as unacceptable and un-American, and can even get you accused of "siding with them". That angers me to a great degree, just as it would anger me if those being pro-this-situation were accused of the same thing. But then, I've always had issues with those who believe theirs is the only opinion anyone should have.
Believe me, I do not think all those who agree with the war are blind, war-mongering sheep. Never.
Sorry; I've been hearing that a lot lately. I just thought it was ironic that Lyssie was using him as an example of how "everyone" doesn't support the war, when in fact he was booed off the stage after just getting a standing ovation for his work. And in Hollywood. That stunned me. But for some reason, whenever I hear people reporting about it now (and this includes some news agencies, mostly overseas) I only hear about what he said and the standing ovation, not that the two were wholly unconnected. I feel obliged to set the story straight when I can.
Speech and counterspeech. It's the beauty of the 1st Amendment. ;) (And speaking of which, I should be finishing my reading for that class, not emailing. Dang it, Allie! ;))
Well, of course he was booed. Half the people who would have cheered were told they wouldn't be allowed to say the same thing. Ever heckled someone out of jealousy?
