An Existential Crisis and it's only a post on Dreamwidth
Working from home makes me forget the days, sometimes. But going into the office requires, like, driving. And leaving the house. And prepping things like lunch--I'd forgotten how much work was involved in leaving the house. Not that I'm managing it all that often, even now.
A) I have revised my opinion on Mystery Case Files: The 13th Skull somewhat. I still find the acting atrocious, and some of the bits frustrating (seriously, after everything the detective has encountered, the constant hammer of "ghosts aren't real, lol" was annoying. Like. Ravenhearst wasn't some fluke, ok). And there's still... I don't know, not enough mystery? However, I did actually enjoy working through it, this time. And I was surprised to beat the dude at checkers, so, go me?
I've been replaying the whole series, since I quite enjoy it. I have no plans to replay Dire Grove, though. (and I stand by my inability to find Charles threatening because the actor is atrocious; and his son is like Santa chasing you with jazz hands)
The first Ravenhearst game is still incredibly effective, even KNOWING where it was going. It also remains gothic as fuck.
B) I've also been replaying the Grim Tales series. Bloody Mary continues to be in my top five, it is SO pretty, and the story is very effective. Also, these earlier games are much longer than the recent releases, which I find sad.
The Bride, Legacy, and Wishes are all sort of a connected trilogy as they deal very closely with Luisa and her family. I maintain that Brandon was cuter as a wolf puppy, though (he really was). The Stone Queen is the outlier of this entire series. I think it's the only that's mostly set in a fantasy-type world, while the rest are very grounded in reality. And the plot of "Brandon meets a young Stone Queen and they Fall In Love" is kinda hilariously bad.
Anyway, it was fun to play through them.
C) I've picked up new music (well, some new), over the last year.
- Something for Kate released a new album called The Modern Medieval at the end of last year. It's very ver good. Best track: Come Back Before I Come Back to My Senses
- Tears for Fears released The Tipping Point this year. Most of it is really good, too. I like the titular track, Break the Man, and My Demons (that opening line always makes me snicker)
- The Warning. They were hear for Summerfest, which I didn't go to, but I ended up checking them out on youtube and Choke and Money were good enough to get me to pick up their album Error (look, I like girls singing rock, ok. They're a bit Lacuna Coil, Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless, etc.)
- Metric released a new album, Formentera, and it is AMAZiNG. The first three tracks were released early, and I was constantly replaying them. Definitely recommend.
- The Regrettes also had a recent album, Further Joy. It's also amazing. I've liked them since their single track, Seashore. Fave track off Further Joy: Monday.
- Cannons, album Shadows. Mellow and groovy.
I'm sure there were others, but those are the most recent ones. I like new music. =D
D) For some reason, I inspired myself to write Laura Roslin/Lee Adama porn (set during 1x10, or just after Lee returned, triumphant). Trust me, I'm as confused as anyone else. For one thing, I haven't watched BSG in almost a decade. Though I definitely shipped it in the abstract. Now I just have to polish it and post it.
E) I realized I never mentioned: I did watch the Loki series. I really really really liked Sylvie, and could watch an entire 24-episode season of her working through time to destroy things. The soundtrack is also awesome. As was the bits of scenery from the Atlanta Marriott (I spent certain scenes cackling madly). Also, the Sylvie series should have Hunter B-15 and also Ravonna as they chase her trying to shut her down. /craves.
