It occurs to me that Twilight fandom needs to discover The Pretender. Especially those episodes where Jarod stalks Miss Parker.

Because, for serious, the show has exchanges like:
"I could shoot you."
"I took the firing pin out last night."
"I sleep with this gun under my pillow."
"I know."

And he likes leaving her presents in her house. He knows more about her past than she does. She keeps not shooting him.

Also, that time they were trapped in a bank robbery together is like Lyssie id-crack. I think I've found the reason why I love bank heists

I need to rewatch this show.

Question is... WHY DOES NOWHERE HAVE IT ON DEMAND GDI?

Seriously though, Andrea Parker is so damn awesome I'm pissed I can never seem to find the show anywhere to watch.

Along with Gigolo Jarod, Bank is probably my favourite episode. Hee!

Bank was one of the two episodes that I KEPT MISSING when Pretender was being aired in syndication. Seriously, it was awful knowing what I was missing there.

And oh, man, healthy boundaries so weren't a part of Pretender fandom.

Remember those people that didn't realize that Jarod was creepy as fuck when he did this?

(Personally, I wanted him to be bullshitting and for Parker to shoot him in that scene. Because that would be perfect.)

It is surprisingly re-watchable. Sure, the Jarod plots sometimes get a little samey, but the Centre stuff and background mythos is a bit more fascinating now.

Someone elsewhere was saying it was on Huluplus. And I think Netflix has it, but only as disks (I inherited my roommate's dvds as he was tossing them, and I was all "OMG NO, MISS PARKER")

She is pretty amazing, and they let her do some great great stuff.

That episode! I was all "la la la, SALLI RICHARDSON! EE." about it. (I like it, but I like 'Toy Surprise' better for their interaction--it doesn't feel as cliched, also, that episode has more Miss Parker)

As one should! =D

I KNOW. And they're like "we are bad for each other." and "let's hook you up with someone better than me" and and. siiigh. There's just something about how co-dependent they are WHILE NOT EVEN BEING IN THE SAME ROOM/SIDE. It just. Clicks for some part of my psyche.

That is terribly sad (I mean, the episode itself might not actually be that good, but the Jarod and Miss P stuff is aces)

I'm amused to find that out, as i was never in the fandom.

I've met a few online, but I wasn't in the fandom. I wish it surprised me, though. =D

(especially as that whole thing had some annoying paternalistic "I'm doing this because I know better than you" vibes from Jarod and his Plots. I mean, her dad does that stuff, but I expect that. Jarod doing it just makes me want to smack him.)

I have started writing a response to this comment no less than four times. APPARENTLY I still have feelings about this show.

Long comment made short: I was in highschool, it was my first real fandom, and I'm not entirely sure I was actually in it myself, although I did read and write some fic. (I do remember the exact episode where I thought to myself, "Hey, maybe Jarod went a little overboard with what he did to Parker." And then I went back and watched earlier episodes and realized it hadn't really changed all that much.)

Toy Surprise is awesome, and has one of my favourite lines in it, too.

I think that season was definitely their best. Everything was still a little screwy, but it wasn't completely batshit crazy yet.

Ahhhhh I am 15 minutes into the pilot episode of the Pretender RIGHT NOW after having decided 20 minutes ago that I was going to marathon everything

[identity profile] femme-slash-fan.livejournal.com 2012-10-06 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh damn, I can't get onto Hulu at all and Netflix is a costly thing to my poor ass... I guess I'll wait until my GF buys it for me. (It's on her list)

[identity profile] ladyniko.livejournal.com 2012-10-08 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I see I'm going to be stealing bandwidth from the Collinsville Gateway Center & the Hampton Inn this weekend to go find all the eps & have a marathon some nights when it's slow at work.... :-p

(Hey, have to put my laptop to more work when I'm working....)

I miss The Pretender really badly right now!
