sff: Saving Hope, eps 1-7

Because I just marathonned 2-7 over the last few days.

I like it? I mean, it's slow and meandering, and basically St. Elsewhere but with more lens flare and less dudes (and more women as doctors). But it's got some charm to it.

And it consistently passes Bechdel and focuses on the women and their lives. And I'm sort of really enjoying how it's mostly All About Alex, and not about her ghost-walking coma fiance.

It is a bit mawkish and overly sentimental at times, and the hideous and constant lens flare is one of those things they should be slapped for. Lens flares are a stylistic choice. Suuure. Because they don't look awful or make a scene extra eye-roll-worthy. Nope.

But I do enjoy it (I wouldn't have watched five episodes in a row if I didn't). And I am pretty sure that the line I've liked the best, was "Do a girl a solid and take off the tux."

I'm also enjoying that it's... not really trying to be Magical or Make Everything Better. People die and people live, and it's not some big Mystical Explanation of Life. It's just. Stuff happening.

There's also a canon gay couple who aren't played for laughs, and who do kiss on-screen.

I also think the cast does a really amazing job ignoring the elephant in the room in the shape of Daniel Jackson.
