These Fragile Truths - a Boomer/Caprica fanmix

I always think of these two as incredibly, intensely sad and angsty. Their lives are intertwined with so many other people, and their loyalties get all tangled up with love and lust and the inadvertant pains that come with learning to be people. (I would say human, but they're both Cylons, and 'human' seems limiting in some way)

And yet they were also, for a short time, carefree and happy and loved. I'm hoping this mix conveys some of their journey around each other.

Poe - Hello | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=befAwVNfkj4
No one should have to face the world alone (Which was Caprica's thoughts on the subject, except for where she was lying. Except that then she changed her mind and realized that love meant more than following the Cylon party line--ok, also, even here, their relationship begins on a lie. Caprica lies and uses confidence tricks to get under Boomer's skin)

Utah Saints - Something Good | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUxhNWDlGts
(I know this is nothing but a dancey, techno-beat song, but it's full of such hope and optimism, and that really fits the way both Boomer and Caprica are at the end of Downloaded. That image of them battle-scarred and dirty, but beaming and smiling is so painful to look back on, given what comes afterwards.)

Tiffany - This Love | http://www.sendspace.com/file/2usfj5
the words that keep us here/never work/better left unsaid (then of course, things start going south, with the massacre during The Plan and then finding New Caprica. Also, I know, I know, Tiffany, right? But I couldn't shake how perfect the words seemed to hit that "we are happy and silly in love, BUT THERE IS A DEEP GULF OF ANGST WAITING TO SWALLOW"--ok, it's possibly just a sweet little pop song and I'm reading into things)

The Killers - Smile Like You Mean It | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppX797fIW6Y
(because every revolution needs its innocents to be rudely awakened. This one is almost unneeded, but I couldn't pass up the chance to use it. It's probably over-used in fan mixes.)

Pet Shop Boys - One and One Make Five | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4j3Xgzd4xw
Have you heard the news?/Everybody's asking who/is that man you've been seen with/and why I'm never out with you
(and this is where it's really gone south--Caprica has found her connection to Baltar again, and Boomer's out in the cold with only Cavil for company. 'S enough to drive anyone mad. New Caprica sucks, even if it once was for lovers)

Warpaint - Bees | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rvCDxiy6OM
all that time it took you to get yourself straight/was too late/so work harder for the things you made in me (and in the end, it all comes crashing down--for them, for everyone... although a part of this song makes me think that there might be something for them, in the future)

Sometimes, I think of Boomer's character arc, and simply despair at how they skimped on her. There is such meat in her relationship with Caprica (and D'Anna, even)--not to mention Baltar, who once convinced her to commit suicide. And yet. All forgotten. Sigh. I loved the complexity of it all, y'know?
