So. The republicans have closed the capitol building to anyone but rich lobbyists (this is, btw, illegal). Since the people couldn't get to the democrats... the democratics reps climbed out the windows on the first floor and held office hours on the lawn. In 24-degree weather.

Dear republicans in Wisconsin: please continue doing childish things, you're just making yourselves look more and more idiotic.

PS. Utah is trying to recall democratic senators.... UTAH. Not Wisconsin. I guess you really aren't for listening to the people you were elected by.

(This will be as historically awesome as the 1893 Legislative War in Kansas, you know that?)

I love Wisconsin Democrats a lot.

I've been trying so hard to ignore all this (too much on my plate in RL, don't need external drama), but wow! Thanks for this update, now I won't miss history entirely while I use this teaspoon to move this mountain of sand.

Someone asked me the other day "Aren't you scared that this will pass and spread throughout the land?"

And I said "No, Walker et al. seem to be a pretty fantastic job of self-destruction. I figure we wait a few more months, this'll have gone away and he won't make it past the election cycle".

Because, seriously. Guy has kinda lost his mind.

*blink*
...
They did WHAT?!?
Awesome.

Wow, I think they've reached the Italian Level of Politics. This is when everyone else comes to just watch in bewilderment.

When we got there in Poland we ended up with early elections and highest turnout since the fall of communism because everyone wanted to make sure the ones responsible didn't get to rule again.

I read an article on ontd_p that there is now an effort among actual Wisconsin residents to recall the GOP senators.

[identity profile] miera-c.livejournal.com 2011-03-03 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah the WI Democratic party, I think, has thrown their support behind the recall efforts.

Much, much love for the WI Dems in the senate and the assembly.

The Democrats in Wisconsin are just really kinda awesome. I'm guessing a lot of these Republican reps are just trying to be as douchy as possible before being recalled?

I love the Wisconsin Democrats. Seriously.

As of a few minutes ago the effing court hearing about this was still going on. They were arguing earlier about protesters using blue tape to post signs being damaging to the marble. Seriously.

The state GOP also passed a bill to get the missing Dem senators arrested. The state police told them where to stick it. http://crooksandliars.com/susie-madrak/wisconsin-police-association-republic

What's even worse about this is that Fox news - not known for usually being so blatantly false - had a reporter "on scene" at the state capitol - with palm trees in the background.

*g* You're welcome. It's hard not to at least poke for updates, as I wait for Walker to start laying off the people he's threatened to layoff.

Yup. And while something similar has passed in Ohio, iirc, it sounds like it's still being protested, etc.

Hahah. To be fair to them, I've seen a lot of footage with plastic palm trees in it. So I'm wondering if there was some sort of 'thing' where the protesters were carting them around.

That's what it sounds like, unfortunately. (I think the best was taking away the democrats' parking spaces.)

Go, police reps! Tell 'em how stupid this is. =D

Bwah. That's usually how I view politics, anyway. But in this case, everyone is beginning to do the "...O.O" thing.

And I really hope the momentum of this keeps going for when Walker gets recalled and there's a new vote held for governor. My fingers are sort of crossed that people won't have forgotten this.

Yep. I'm pleased, and if I were in a district where I could help, I'd be calling to give them my signature.

I know. When you resort to taking away parking spaces you're scraping the bottom of the barrel.

[identity profile] greycoupon.livejournal.com 2011-03-06 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
The protesters brought in the inflatable palm trees the day after Fox aired the clip with REAL ones. The real clip was from California, iirc.

To be fair the start of the Oreilly piece was about protestors coming from out of state to protests which is how they justified using an old clip like that.
