4. I am very excited to see the wtf-inducing Atlantis finale in a not-excited at all way.
5. I had someone tell me that we don't need more female superheroes as, after all, women should be able to identify with male characters, right? The fail was strong with that one. I did not, however, call it an idiot, though it was so so tempting.Aeryn did it for me

I doubt many women identify with Power Girl, for instance, though I could be wrong. It also gets so much harder to identify with characters like Cassandra Cain when their characterisation gets screwed over so utterly.
Female characters need to be more than just windowdressing T&A waiting to be stuffed in fridges.

The sad thing is that some of his essay has a vague merit--male pursuits ARE given more credence for Awesome than female. And women are encouraged to be More Masculine. Just look what happens on any forum, ever, when girls are called girly.
There's an immediate out-cry of "I'm totally not! I love XYZ Violence and HATE things like Sex and the City and shopping!"
Otoh, I do actually loathe SatC.

That actually is never an argument that's used. The person I was talking to actually told me that we don't need female superheroes (or female-lead-role films), that women can just learn to identify with the males.
I don't know, Acey, sometimes, I wonder about the world.

and other thingsbulging as they strike poses might give the impression they were gay without unrealistic portrayals of women in buttflossto act as beardsaround. Not at all reminiscent of American Football. Those superheroes need superheroines to showcase their manliness, damn it! Our children (Well, not mine, obviously) need proper rolemodels. Like Tony Stark. Or Hank Pym. Without female superheroines with barely-there costumes and inflatable breasts to focus their burgeoning sexuality / sense of identity on, they might grab the wrong end of the stick. Where are they supposed to get their ideas from if not comics? The Disney Channel? Then they might end up as damn furries!
/tongue firmly in cheek and wiggled around a bit
//not that there's anything wrong with that
///seriously, female characters need to be more than just a way to advance the characterisation or mindfucking of male characters. It's insulting to the characters, the readers and the writer.
