In Plain Sight: Why, yes, I do have a thing for mouthy blonde women who point guns at people.

Actually, my review isn't very long. It was cute, amusing, and made me laugh and grin madly. Will be watching next week.

She drives like Jo McDonagh! She doesn't take crap from anyone, and gives it back in spades! Her family is wacky, but I can deal with that. At least her mother didn't slam her fingers in a door (I know, I know, that's the only way to make awesome female characters who are bitches).

Also? Criminal Intent will be on before it. I GET EAMES AND MARY AND FALACCI AND RODGERS. Someone out there loves me.

... Oh good Christ. I mean, I loved Veronica Mars (we find out she's raped in the first episode), and Kara, obviously, but it's just way too common a crutch for people who want to create strong female characters and still have them be accesable and sympathetic. (I guess?)

Was that Mercades Lackey? She's supposed to be particularly fond of gang-rape.

Here's hoping the In Plain Sight chick fares better!

The really sad thing is, I've seen this trope over and over and over again. That's why I roll my eyes when people tell me Kara Thrace is new in any way, shape or form. She's just another damaged child with issues.

It's called In Plain Sight, and it's being shown on USA. It's about federal marshals. So, not SF or anything. But still awesome.

Well, true. She's dysfunctional in her own unique and special way, though! ;) It's a fact that most characters fit into tropes, and that's not even necessarily a bad thing - but yeah, the victim trope for women is way overused. Even Sharon was "humanized" through rape, as was one of the Six's. I guess Roslin is the only one carrying the banner for strong women who didn't get that way by having their fingers slammed in doors.

Just keep in mind that, er, my tastes tend to run sideways to everyone else's. I like Torchwood and Farscape, I don't think BSG is the best thing ever, and I still have a soft spot for the 90's X-Men cartoon.

On top of that, I tried to watch Burn Notice once and was utterly bored, and Law and Order: original and SVU bore me to tears.

Aeryn Sun? I probably shouldn't ask, 'cause I don't want to be hugely spoiled, but It'd be cool if she could not have joined the "Peace Keepers" because Daddy didn't give attention to the fact that Mommy didn't care. ;)
