I would like to go back to sleep, please

Unfortunately, my brain is full of feminist theory and the latest Supernatural wank. As in, the last two hours have been me dreaming about stuff I was reading on Fandom Wank and elsewhere, and just getting progressively more irritated.

It's weird, because I don't think FW used to be so very full of theory when it came to sexism--this is not a bad thing, but the shift intrigues me.

Which is perhaps why I was dreaming about it.

Waking up, cranky and unable to continue sleeping, though, reminded me of an observation about commercials for 'In Plain Sight', that new USA show about some woman named Mary.

Two months ago, the commercials were full of wacky, weird, silly stuff. She ran around with a gun, her family was weird, her partner was weird, but tolerant, and she was a sassy, amusing, independent chick.

About a month ago, I stopped seeing those commercials and started seeing completely different ones. These are full of emotional drama, heartfelt conversations, and the lead being a nurturing, caring individual. There's no mention of her wackiness or independence.

So, I gotta wonder: were test audiences unthrilled with the original?

I mean, I liked the original commercials. I thought it looked a little cheesy, but then, it was a show about a blonde with a gun. I like women with guns. Hell, I used to occasionally watch Huntress, that show about a mother-daughter bounty hunter team. And that show was highly cheesy (I also watched VIP, which was full of women with guns, blowing things up and kicking ass, even if it was also full of pointless T&A).
