Because I was forced to rewatch and rewatch in the name of..
...y'know, research. And stuff.
More commentary (and screencaps) regarding the Kara and Sam scene from The Ties That Bind.
1. Kara is pushing Sam's buttons something fierce in this scene. She wants him gone, or she wants him frakking her on her terms. IE, no strings, no emotions, just pure sex. It's funny to watch, because Kara goes from last week's hysterics to a single-minded determination to 'feel' something in this episode. It's like two different people, really.
2. Kara may also want Sam to hurt her, and this is the only way she knows how to do it. She pushes and pushes until he snaps under the strain and pushes back. The triumphant smirk when he shoves her back isn't visible for long, and could just be a trick of the lights. But it's how I imagine she'd look, having broken Sam's control and goaded him into sex.
3. The question is, have they played this game before? I'm guessing that's a yes. I'm also wondering if this was how she got him to frak her for the first time after Collaborators--heaped abuse on him until she snapped.
4. For all that I've speculated about Sam being able to push her buttons, Kara is just as adept at manipulating his.
5. Speaking of Sam, he's got a couple things going on here: for one, he's a Cylon. He's second-guessing anything he's ever done and trying to convince himself that this doesn't change anything. That he's still Samuel T. Anders, that he's still married to Kara Thrace. And that she still loves him.
I'm pretty sure he's never been certain about the latter. Hard for him to be, given Kara only shouts her love for Lee Adama.
6. Kara died. Kara died and now she's back and he has not frakking clue ONE how she survived or if she's a Cylon, but he knows, on some level, that's a fucking miracle. On top of that, on some level is the treacherous thought that she came back to him.
7. They'd both like to get laid. Sex is a good stress reliever, and since Kara's alive, Sam ain't frakking around. And Kara is, well, no one else on that ship would have sex with her, and her hand and fingers just ain't doing it.
8. I am unsurprised that Kara's so lost. I am surprised that this is the first time she and Sam have talked (Sam's still pissed off about getting hit, I imagine. Not that he'll ever tell her, or she'll ever apologize, or, y'know, there'll be any follow-through there of any sort). And the scene honestly reads very much like something that was set days in rather than weeks in.
9. Kara's bed, sheets, pillows and pillow-cases are all really nice and expensive. Some rich person back in the fleet is now sleeping on a cold mat. And I want to know if they stopped in the midst of their rough sex to dump the paint on the floor. Also, Kara's bed is BIG.
10. Watching the scene in slow-motion is weird, and I'm wondering if Trucco and Katee started cracking up or something. Anyway. Sam shoves her down, follows her down and then starts to do the slow, "I'm gonna slide my hand up your arm and frak you senseless, baby" thing and Kara's immediate response is to lash out, scratching at him.
11. The answer to the question everyone is probably wondering is that, I don't know if I found the scene hot or not. I found it... Angsty. And very remeniscent of Ellen and Saul Tigh. And painful. But I'm not sure I found it hot.
Sigh. So have some pictures. (which. wtf. photobucket just changed its uploader thingie)
First, how MUCH do I love the doubled symbolism in this pic? Sam's reminding her about their tattoos, and her tags are dangling and banging into their arms.

And then there's this...
Sam: "I'm not leaving, but you aren't going to hit me again."
Kara: "Fine. I'm going to grind into you and remind you that I know how to make you beg for it."

Kara: "I dare you to frak me, Sammy." ('cause, y'know, that whole married thing so totally doesn't count anymore, now that she's got a Special Destiny)

And then, after Sam shoves her backwards and down onto the bed, and they fight and frak (and pause so as not to get paint on each other, and also to take ALL of their clothing off....) we have this post-coital moment of "omgwtf I just slept with my husband, now I don't feel real anymore" (note to self: Kara Thrace is like Samson, if you give her an orgasm, she loses her strength of purpose)

eta: Ok. The jury's mostly back. Yeah, I think it was hot. This thought is helped by the fact that, during their rough "omgIhateyou" sex, they, um, had to stop to remove all clothing AND the paint cans from Kara's bed. (my roommate suggested they shoved them onto the floor, but Kara would bitch about the paint being wasted, although since she got it from the replicator, maybe not). I mean, seriously, they're not wearing a stitch, not even SOCKS in the second scene...

That IS a big bed. Although if she's commandeered the ship, I can only assume that's the captain's quarters?
no subject
But it's a sewage recycle ship. Why would there be any sort of luxury like that? Unless the previous captain was into retrofitting his ship, so he was king of the shit.

Btw, when Kara's having her post-sex freak out about not being real, the look on Sam's face... he wants her to be a Cylon so bad, or at least accept that he's a Cylon. I think he's just as lost as Kara only he's trying to hold on to her, and she doesn't want that. He really wants to tell her.
Poor Sam and Kara!
no subject
I'd argue that he doesn't want her to be a Cylon, but also that he's not sure what he is, and he's wishing she wasn't his only link to 'humanity'.
no subject
Well, of course he does! There's no need for anti-depressants in the fleet. I mean, it's not like their home worlds exploded and they lost everyone they loved and they're on the run from the killer robots out to get them and they're following a drug-induced vision from some woman who proclaims she's a dying leader.
Everything's peachy keen! They have fancy napkins!

Hmm... I think the whole Kara/Sam relationship was founded on fighting the Cylons... that's how they met, and the start of their relationship; saving one another and all. So I think for Sam, Kara's the only one who can possibly provide him with some hope that he's the same person he was on Caprica, that he IS a person. But Kara's not having that, cause she's not the same, either.
Y'know what they need? Anti-depressants! I hope someone packed those as well. And seriously, WHY are there so many pilots just sitting around? Shouldn't they be back with the Fleet? And who is taking care of Hera?

Exactly. On some level, Sam is flailing and going "omgwtf, but I'm still me if Kara is here, right?" or something to that effect. Which, hey, y'know, Kara being his reason for not airlocking himself is all to the good.
Actually, they're flying recon patrols. ;)

Eh, true. I still don't think they were what the problem was, though.

Now...maybe it's the 20 odd shots of whiskey I had last night, but I watched this episode as soon as I got home, and it gave me a headache. Like...for real?
But, the sex scene was good.
Totally Off-Topic: Woke up with a broken thumb. Not sure how I pulled that off

Kara can't find Earth.
Sam and Kara are remembering that they haven't had sex in a while.
And Lee is being pwned by Roslin. A lot.
Ack. That's wacky and not-good.
no subject
I knew Kara couldn't find Earth, because there are still 16 some episodes left this season.
Sex is always fun.
Enjoyed watching Roslin destroy Lee at every turn, that was a good time.
And, we apparently went bowling last night, and I may have broken it there. Don't remember bowling at all, but I trust my friends to not
draw penises on my face with sharpie when I pass outlieno subject
I hope your friends are trustworthy...

And, I trust them to not let me things that are too, too stupid.
Also, I wrote a bunch of fic, I guess on my laptop whilst I tried to drink a friend under the table. Maybe I'll kick myself into posting it after I go back and change all the drunken mistakes. And yes, there is porn tossed in. And it's mostly BSG stuff. So, it's a good day!
Besides the hangover
