BSG comic spam: Dee is more awesome than you.

Ok, I meant to do this last week, and still have a pile of stuff I want to scan, but I got distracted. A lack of brain when staring at the Piratesfic notes gave me time to go through the stack of BSG comics (the ones written by Greg Pak and drawn by Nigel Raynor), and remind myself how much awesome and crack this comic contained (as opposed to the fail season three contained). But I also did it to seek out the Dee bits, or the ones I thought were awesome (which was most). Man. I'd forgotten Billy had lines...

Anyway.

Backstory: Blah, blah, sacred scrolls, blah, returners, blah, bringing disease with them. Cue oldskool Cylons showing up after only Kara's still on her feet and she, Adama and Cylon!Zak take out the problem ones, then end up adopting the rest (it's cute, also, Kara tells them to go frak themselves and they start self-destructing). Zak and Lee run around being the Adama Boys and shooting things until Lee gets infected, too.

Which brings us to Lee sitting at Dee's bedside, since she got sick before him... (and he's got some company now). (how much do I love Greg Pak for giving us Lee worrying over Dee, in canon, prior to her sitting at his bedside?--comic is set before Pegasus)

(nine comic pages, and one half-page behind the cut)

Next issue, they're reminding us what's gone before, with an Overview, and look, Lee is still at Dee's bedside... (also, there is gratuitous Gaeta)

Please note that Cottle smokes in every. single. panel he's in. It is the awesomest thing EVER.

Adama has sent the Returners on a suicide mission, and then stormed a religious ceremony where some of those left were. Dee was there, saying goodbye to her brother, who's already gone.

ILU DEE <3 <3 <3

D'Anna psychobabbles brother dear, and this next bit is, sadly, all in his head. But head!Dee is still MORE AWESOME THAN GOD.

Sadly, that was most of Dee's appearances...

Finally, two gratuitously amusing bits. The first is Adama pwning the terrorists...

The second is notourSharon storming Colonial One, shooting Starbuck and then getting confronted by Roslin, who is... not impressed. (ilu, Mom)

Mom in this series - actually, ALL the women in this series, even if Pak is SO IN LOVE with Sharon - is completely badass. <3 <3 <3

Also, there was Billy.

The comics have handled the women characters much better then the show has lately.

Dee = Awesome. :D Love that pic of Lee worrying about Dee. We could have used more of that!

Ge was terribly in love with Sharon, which shows. And which I don't mind. Because even though he was, he didn't make it the "Sharon Valerii is better than anyone else" comic. He made it the "Everyone is frakked, but Sharon is awesome" comic...

And there was Billy setting up phone sex. ;)

The one thing I also really adored about the comic was that Pak never lost sight of the bigger picture--it wasn't just about the Galactica, it was the fleet, as a whole. It was awesome, and reminiscent of the mini.

YAY! *pets Greg*

And yes. Billy really was setting up phone sex. He even had the slightly disturbed expression to back that shit up. "How is it that my life has been reduced to scheduling sex? Glamor, fortune, and fame pass me by, but I'm all about septuagenarian sex. I need a frakking vacation."

...did they ever put Cally in that comic?

She's in a few, brief scenes of the deck crew, iirc. But no lines, I don't think.

Boo, hiss.

you know, this Dee is already more interesting than the one in the series. And what you put up is all that I've ever seen of the comic. It actually annoys me that Lee is all sitting with Dee. He's Kara's personal property, just like Sam and Helo and every other guy on the show.

Wow. I really hope that was sarcasm. Otherwise, are you sure you know what journal you're commenting on?

I know who you are dear. I just never understood the Lee/Dee dynamic. She's always seemed kinda like window dressing to me. Then again, I firmly believe that every male on the show belongs part and parcel to Kara. And always will.

Yeah. Greg Pak loves Sharon, and so he created a third Sharon to be his big plot point. She was as awesome as the other Sharons have been, and part of the reason I was so utterly disappointed in S3 Boomer's shitty characterization.

Yeah, I always thought Lee was gay, too.

Hmm, I've never read a comic book but I have a hard time resisting any form of BSG content. This looks pretty good. Kandyse McClure should totally beat Ron over the head with a rolled-up copy of it. ;)

Though I have to deduct points for "Darren Dualla." And Darrin not calling her by her first name. And head!Dee calling him her "baby-brother" when real!Dee called him her big brother. Though maybe that makes more sense in context?

Can you buy these at any old comics store, or do you have to order them?

SHE SHOULD.

Mwahaha. Yeah, the comic did suffer occasional moments where you went "but, didn't...?" those were outweighed by the lack of women being shunted into secondary roles, though.

You can probably find them in a comics store, there are 13 issues numbered 0-12. Do not, however, pick up the currently-running "Year Zero" as it's full of fail and way worse art. You can mock it, though. That usually amuses our comicstore guy.

When I first saw the show (i actually caught eps before i saw the mini) I couldnt figure out what his problem was. He came across as a little wimpy. I'm just equal opportunity for getting Kara laid as often as possible. And I really dont like the idea of her having to share her toys.
