quick review: DW Family of Blood/that one which came before it
I suspect I could have watched paint dry and been more impressed.
You know, if I wanted pointless emo timecock, I'd go read Rose fic. Not to mention, why must every companion be romantically in love with the Doctor?
Shit, I'm all for a return to him being asexual, at this point.
The episodes were probably some of the worst I've ever watched, and that includes the Cyberman two-parter from season two, which sucked donkey cock. Hell. Lazarous Experiment, which I'd heard was crap, was better than this.
There were moments where it tried to be good. Sadly, they were overshadowed by the Mary Sue (in the form of a little boy, so, at least the gender was swapped for this), the pointless WAR IS BAD MMKAY, and, overall, the ludicrously stupid villians and bad plot.
I love Paul's stuff, normally. His Wisdom LS is one of the best comics I've read in the last five years. But this makes me sad. Very sad.
And I did like bits of the episode, the hugs at the end, the Doctor thanking her, even some of the opening stuff wasn't bad. But then it all gets muddled up in some bad penny romance novel coupled with someone's I Can't Know What It's Truly Like To Be Human essay that fell off a lorry... Sigh. Ghost in the Shell does this angst so much better. Also, the Major's better at it.
The scarecrows were laugh-worthy, and I was really hoping they wouldn't be.
But. Seriously. "I need the Doctor and I love him so much and he'll never even notice me." Is that the best motivation they could have given Martha? I thought this was the year 2007, not fucking 1907.
And the flash-forwards with the little boys on the battlefield. Um. Weren't soldiers generally in their 20's, for those wars? Or is that 'in Vietnam, the common age of the soldier was 19' song lying about it all? Noes. Communist propaganda. :/
At least Blink was better.
Final thought: Optimus Prime would have made this episode so much better.
