ugh.

The day did not start well. I had to go to work.

Dear Kara/Lee writers, I've got a suggestion for you: don't write Sam Anders. At all. None of you can do it without constantly going on about how superior Lee is to him, and how he's doomed to failure. And that's just kind of stupidly pointless.

I'd make the same suggestion to the Kara/Anders writers, except of the three of us, I'm the only that does comparisons, and I usually nail Baltar, too.

Dear work, you suck.

Dear Quin, I do not have any ice cream. Please stop licking my leg and crying at me to get some.

Dear Stone Sour, you win for putting the word 'maelstrom' in your lyrics.

Dear Skiffy, fuck you for cancelling Dresden Files and Painkiller Jane.

Dear PKJ haters, fuck you, too.

Painkiller Jane was canceled?!!!!!!!!

Yup. They'll finish showing this season, and then that's it.

I'm masochistic. If it has Sam's name on it, I give it a try. If only because there's so little fic with him. Inevitably, he's a pod person (disturbingly, so is Lee, a lot of the time. Poor Lee. :/ And let's not talk about Kara Thrace and her love for babies....)

[identity profile] daera23.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
but if a sometime Lee/Kara writer was thinking about writing Sam/Lee?

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'm indecisive on that, really. Because it becomes less about Kara, then. And more about the two of them kissing. And Trucco kissing boys is hot.

[identity profile] daera23.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
yeah. my mantra is there is nothing sexier in porn than one guy sucking another's cock. must be all about the power issues . . .

That... I don't really see. But, um, boybits bore me. Boys kissing is nice, though.

Oh, THAT baby-adoring, super-maternal, joyfully fecund Kara Thrace. Uh, the identical cousin of the character on the show?

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Kara is totally maternal. Yup. (actually, thanks to canon, she is, sadly)

Really, though, it's Sam who dotes on them more. this is not the babyfic you're looking for

...the fuck is wrong with Skiffy? Have they just decided they no longer WANT a successful series?

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure they'll see it as more evidence that SF audiences don't want strong female characters. I can't say I really blame them. AT moves to Atlantis? Everyone hates on her. PKJ has two strong female characters who pwn everyone? Fandom pans the series and calls it crap.

Basically, women will be relegated back to the screaming, support roles. Since that's all fandom want out of them, anyway.

[identity profile] obsidian179.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Personally, I don't hate Amanda. I just don't think Carter's needed on Atlantis. (And dammit, I like Weir!) The city's already packed with brainy people (of both genders). But if this goes anything like SG-1, once Carter comes in, situations will keep coming up that only Sam can solve, and the others will get pushed to the side.

Seriously, I have no idea what all the other scientists were doing in Stargate Command for the ten years she was there. Every damn situation that came up, she was involved in. Any time she and another scientist/general/authority figure disagreed, she HAD to be right. She nearly kills a world by overriding the dialing protocols, and no one cares. She gives the Replicators an immunity to the Ancient weapon, no one cares. (She's even told it wasn't her fault!) Don't get me wrong - I like Sam. There were just a number of times over the years when I had this strong urge to slap her. And I have this sneaking suspicion that this will most definitely continue on Atlantis.

You're right. I don't know why they keep letting the male characters fuck up and not get smacked for it.

[identity profile] obsidian179.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
What, you wanted me to list everybody on SG-1 that annoyed me at one time or another, and why? Do you know how long that would have taken? *grins*
ext_18106: (six)

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
It would certainly make a change from the fact that no one ever actually does so. If it's female, WHAM, instant annoyance and a long list of grievances. If it's male? instant squeals of glee and long lists of how AWESOME they are.

I need a fucking bingo card, at this point.

[identity profile] obsidian179.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't even keep track of the number of times Daniel's deserved a smack to the head (even if only because of his general attitude, tendency to wander off, and habit of going on and on about stuff that no one else cares about). ;) My main problem with him, I think, would be how he sometimes just never shut the hell up. I'd probably feel just as annoyed if it was him going to Atlantis instead of Sam. Of course, his screw-ups aren't always consequence-free. That time he (stupidly) interfered with that woman's suicide attempt and got him team thrown into the mines? He got addicted to the use of a sarcophagus. And Icon? Oh, don't even get me started on Icon... All of SG-1 gets away with far too much, really. Jaffa revenge thing leads Teal'c to be brainwashed and try to kill his team, and ALSO get stuck in the gate so that Jack has to spring Maybourne from jail to help (and did Jack get in ANY kind of trouble for the aftermath of that decision? I don't remember it, if he did...)? Oops! These things happen. (Though the fact that he did have to go through the mystical rite of "having his symbiote yanked out for most of an episode" and very nearly die is probably enough for some people.) And Jack... I don't care how good he is, or how high ranking, or even how many times he's saved the planet. There is simply no way any actual officer in the armed forces could get away with such a staggering amount of insubordination. Basically telling a high ranking member of an allied government's military "Bite me"? Yeah, that wouldn't work, let alone go by without even a HINT of reprisal.

And let's not even go into the SGC's collective decisions regarding hostile aliens that they've worked with - Nirrti, Replicarter, etc.

okay, rec me your top 5 anders fics...i need to see someone do it right.

[identity profile] lyssie.livejournal.com 2007-08-17 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
oh. hard. um. *ponders* The thing is, most of them are written by either Sbabe or Lizardbeth. I can't do just five, so, less than five authors.

ok. the wierd thing is, this first one is a Helo/Sharon fic, not Kara and Sam. But the Sam in it is AWESOME.

Sbabe - Scenes From a Liberation - http://sabaceanbabe.livejournal.com/125829.html

Sbabe - Can't Let This Get Away - http://sabaceanbabe.livejournal.com/145150.html

Lizardbeth: http://lizardbeth-j.livejournal.com/72646.html and http://lizardbeth-j.livejournal.com/59336.html and http://lizardbeth-j.livejournal.com/57426.html (this last is boyslash)

Cynthia_Arrow's Relearning - http://cynthia-arrow.livejournal.com/144313.html and also her Lee/Anders fic - Down and Down - http://cynthia-arrow.livejournal.com/133728.html

And, finally, Likeadeuce's Survive and Advance. http://likeadeuce.livejournal.com/686317.html

So, I take it back. There are more than three people writing Sam Anders...
